UFL Week 2
This Wednesday the Florida Tuskers will take on the Los Vegas Locos at 4pm Pacific time on Versus. Michael Pittman, Tatum Bell and Brooks Bollinger are the notables on the Tuskers who blew out the New York Sentinals 35-13 this last weekend.

I see MrKordell is checking in on the general population, browsing this thread right now. Probably wondering if anybody can help him figure out where he's been for the past 8 or 9 years. Hi Kordell!

It would be a nice big blank white jpeg. Because no one is watching.

On the one hand, 220k households viewing is pretty bad. On the other hand, it's already better than what CNBC gets every night. With a little improvement they could be the third most watched cable news network

I was being facetious, but 220k is practically no-one. Especially for a first week (though you could claim that being on low-circulation networks causes low numbers more than the league itself); we'll see what the ratings look like on week 2.
I actually like and support this league. The reality is that very few people care. |

I love football. I think having a league that keeps free agents/undrafted guys noticed is a great thing.
I was not a huge proponent of NFL Europe but great players with extra available playing time against better talent came out of there. Arena football even brought a few players to the NFL also. I would watch/tivo it every time it is on and the first game on versus was actually not bad for a first game ever in a league. It was better then a meaningless college game and i like watching players that i have watched through the college ranks.

OMG, they really have 4 teams and call it a league? That puts them on the same level as the lingerie football league. Makes scheduling easier though, I guess. They have what, a three week season? Then three weeks of playoffs??
Damn DirecTV and Versus for keeping this off my tv.

Hey, the Washington Nati'nals averaged 14,000 households this season. And that was an increase of 75%. Sure, it's just one market, but it makes the UFL not look quite as bad.

+1 this, but after going through each of the rosters there were actually relatively few players who I had any recollection of at all, at least from their college careers. A couple here, a couple there, but that was about it. Kind of disappointing to me really, I was hoping that might provide a reason for me to watch but it really didn't. Speaking of recognizable names though, I see where Florida has signed former UCLA/Chicago Bears DB Ricky Manning.

I think they were just looking to get a product out there. A foot-in-the-door technique. Start small, grow from there. It makes some sense, especially if initially you might have trouble getting the talent to fill out more teams. Quote:
Once the league shows that it actually plays some games (unlike the New USFL), players might talk to other ex-NFL players/college teammates and have a better time convincing them that this is a viable option. I think the same happens if some UFL guys are actually signed to NFL rosters.

I just don't get the kneejerk resposne from some people. "This league sucks because nobody is watching" is rediculous. If someone could please explain why this league really "sucks" then I'll respect your opinion, but if all you have to talk about is something retarded like "omg nobody was even there" then you should be posting in the regular OS forums...not here.

What if you replace "sucks" with "is pretty much meaningless right now"? What really matters for the players is either them getting a look from the personnel directors in the NFL. What matters for the owners is some combination of ego & profit motive. The former can happen regardless of whether anyone in the general public pay attention, the latter is a lot tougher to imagine without either public support or players willing to play (and stadiums willing to lease, etc) for virtually free.

Wife hijacked the TV last night. Otherwise I would have posted about the game.
Looks like Brooks Bollinger had a great game, going 24/32 for 310 yards and 3 TD/0 INT. J.P. Losman was mediocre at best. He was 19/35 for 231 and 2 TD/1 INT. Granted he was sacked a half dozen times. Here's the Box Score

This league should have gotten a clue and put all of their games online to watch. I'd give it a try, but I don't have Versus. Plus, why put your box scores in PDF format only? Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I agree the PDF thing is pretty retarded. Don't they offer the games for free streaming live on their website? I thought they did. Anyways... I think Pumpy is either A.) mocking me or B.) confused and thinks my wife is a Chicken.

Bring her to Greensburg on your road trip, and we'll have a plucking contest. At the end of the day, I'll still respect you. I like what you done.
