I read this on some news site earlier this morning, but didn't think much of it/believe it... went on cnn.com and didn't see anything there. Shouldn't this be bigger news than it is? Like a BREAKING NEWS thing?

From what I've read it's still a big potential potential as opposed to a current breakthrough. It had some positive effect, but they don't know why yet. It certainly isn't something that will be rushed into production. It's good news and a potential big step forward, but it needs a lot more research.

So, out of 16000 participants does 74 to 51 in one single study really say much ?
I am a bit sceptic here.

It's a promising start. Hopefully, it could lead to an actual vaccine and help alleviate a horrible disease that's ruined millions of lives.

The important point here is that for the first time ever some course of medication has actually prevented infection. While there's still obviously a very long way to go, the results of this test will answer a number of key questions for scientists trying to develop a vaccine.

It's the difference between being told that somewhere in Chicago there's a 100-dollar bill nailed on the ground for you to find and keep and being told that somewhere on State Street in Chicago there's a 100-dollar bill nailed on the ground for you to find and keep.

Oh, so we're on State St! Good to know which road we are well on.

It means something worked and if they can isolate what, they can work off that. It probably shouldn't be front page news on CNN, but it is a huge positive step in the fight.
