PING: Fans of "NFL Week in Pictures"
Hi folks,
So, I finally put together a bit of an archive website. It's still a work in progress and right now (9/21) I only have this week's cartoons up, but you can kind of see how it's going to go. Anyway, it's located here: Football Week in Pictures Obviously I'm not terribly skilled at web design, but hopefully this is functional enough. Comments are always welcome. As a note, yes I've put some Google ads on the site, mostly because it seems foolish not to at least try. Let me know if they're too intrusive. Other updates: * I'm working on some shirts, hopefully in a week or two. These will likely be through CafePress unless someone has a better idea. * I'll aim for a calendar closer to Christmas. * I continue to work on the archive book. It'll probably be printed/ordered through lulu.com, unless, again, someone has a better idea. This is turning out to be a lot of work as I'd like to do it right and make it look somewhat decent. Anyway, thanks again to everyone who enjoys this and has encouraged me to continue. Edit 11/15/07: I now have an RSS 2.0 Feed: Pro Football, in Pictures Edit 11/28/07: A mug and a t-shirt are now available in the store (see below for images, or just go to the store): Pro Football, in Pictures: Home: Zazzle.com Gallery Edit 11/29/07: New, dedicated URL: Football Week in Pictures . nflwip.com also works. Edit 12/4/07: Went with a different, dedicated URL: Football Week in Pictures All other URLs now forward to this one. Edit 10/6/08: New (and hopefully final) website (see below for details): http://profootballcartoons.com/ Last edited by flere-imsaho : 10-06-2008 at 08:52 PM. |

dola,
I had started an index a while back but never finished. If you'd like I can finish it and hopefully it helps in some way. |

If I remember correctly, the index you started was a group of pointers to all the cartoons. If that's it then no, I'm OK because I'll actually be re-hosting every image to a new location, and I've also renamed all the image files to something more reasonable.
I should be OK. Now that the structure's there it's a question of generating all the archive pages. This isn't as hard as it looks as I've broken the site into four separate pages for banner, content, rightnav and footer, so I'll just generate a nav per year and then all the content pages. The good thing is that this will finally put all the images in one place so people won't have to look up each thread on the board. |

Very cool. It looks like you're missing some captions, though.
I've been wanting to forward this on to some people for a while, but I haven't really known what to send them. This makes that easier! |

About damn time you do the T-shirts.
By the way, CafePress is great in regards to selection, but not so good on profit. Go with something like Zazzle.com or Spreadshirt.com since they do T-shirts as well and you get more of a return. Plus the quality is way better.

What do you mean by "captions"? Quote:
That's part of the idea! The full archive should fill out over the next couple of weeks. All weeks going forward will be hosted on the site as well as posted here. Quote:
Thanks again for the advice, Ant. I owe you about 2.354 trillion beers by now. |

Oh, and you Old School coders will be happy to note that about 1/2 the work on the site so far has been done with Wordpad and basic windows ftp via the command-line. Represent!

I know people toss LOL around lightly, but the Browns stuff seriously did have me laughing out loud. "You saw what we did to Charlie." and Derek Anderson's plan. As a Cleveland fan, I'm hoping he sticks with the same plan this week

I would just like to proclaim my like of the term "post hussie". It's more upscale than the generic "post slut" SI

Since we changed Pump's Title to bounty hunter, is it possible to rename Dodgerchick's title to Post Hussie? |

So, I'm not sure I've done this right, but I think I've created my first piece of merchandise. It's a T-Shirt, specifically for long-suffering Miami Dolphins fans. You should be able to see/purchase it at this link.
You should be able to use the cartoon on any type of shirt, not just a plain T-Shirt. I can't vouch for the quality, but if people want to report back, please let me know. It's based on this panel: If people have favorite panels they'd like to see on stuff, by the way, please let me know. Thanks! |

How do you order it? I don't see a shopping cart link or even a price. I must be missing something. EDIT: Flere, for what it's worth, www.nflweekinpictures.com is available, and so is www.nflwip.com/net/org, if you're interested in nabbing a domain name.

It looks like you click on the shirt, and then on the next page you can pick the type & size of shirt you want and there's an "Add to Cart" button. Quote:
I've considered it, but I think I'll wait for a bit. Thanks for the info, though! |

So, I ordered the first shirt myself, and it came today. It's actually a lot nicer than I thought it would be. The T-Shirt itself is pretty sturdy, and the printing is smooth - part of the fabric, as opposed to having that quality of feeling like it's a sticker on the shirt. The lines and lettering all came out pretty sharp.
I'll be doing more. |

Where you may run into trouble is the nfl trademark. If you're selling stuff, rather than providing a free service, you may need to stick with 'weekinpictures.com' or something of that nature, lest the lawyers track you down. |

OK, I've gone now with a less "trademarkey" URL: http://www.football-week-in-pictures.com . All other URLs now point to this one, and I think I'll stick with this one, so please update your links/bookmarks. Thanks!

Hey, did you just pose for your T-shirt and you now have facial hair? How many of my freaking years did I spend on this forum? Or am I seeing things and that is some generic model wearing the T-shirt?

I've moved to a new (and hopefully final) website: Pro Football, in Cartoons!
The advantages are: 1. It's got the Wordpress engine, which will make updating a lot easier. 2. Automatic RSS feeds (RSS 2 & Atom) 3. People can now comment on the website. 4. With this done, I can start loading some of the archives. Enjoy! |

Well, I finally did it. I made a calendar, for 2009. I have no idea how this is going to turn out, so I'm ordering one for myself tonight and I'll report back once I get it.
I used selected stuff from the 2008 season (nothing new - sorry). The various images are here: January February March April May June July August September October November December |

So, today I received a copy of the calendar I ordered.
It's a bit disappointing, to be honest. The main issue is that in print the cartoons are very small. It's deceiving, because online they're (obviously) big enough and whatnot, but in reality they're 600 pixels by 300 pixels at a resolution of 300 pixels per inch. That means each strip is 2 inches wide by 1 inch high (smaller than they appear on the screen). So, while the cartoons for each page of the calendar are still certainly legible, they're kinda small. I guess, in retrospect, I should have converted them to at least 150 pixels per inch, making them a bit bigger. Something I'll try next year. Anyway, the calendar is still amusing and we'll still enjoy it, which was the main point, but you certainly won't be able to read each page from distance. Sorry about all that. This obviously has ramifications for making a book, as well, but I'll be honest - with the baby and all I barely have time to keep up with creating strips each week as it is (along with all my other responsibilities), so I'm sure no one is holding their breath. On the other hand, I think the website is finally now in pretty good shape. And the T-shirts have generally come out good. |
