As an extravert, I feel things more when I speak them. I didn;t cry at all today until I started speaking the bit I will be doing at her service. I thought about it all day, but only when I actually spoke the words did the emotion hit me full circle. So instead, I am writing them to get them out. Read or not at your leisure. FYI, Milco was my petname for my grandmother, and I created it as a child. It is a contraction of MilktheCow. She was a farmer.

I once spent 4 weeks on her farm, and it made me feel like a man to be a farmer for a month over the summer when I was 10. She taught me how to play Canasta and horseshoes. As I look back on her life, one thing rises above the rest. She was a woman of love. After my mom died, and my dad remarried Judy, my grandmother welcomed her with open arms. And her mother was also welcomed. We even spent a Christmas together. No matter how you drew a line on a chart, there was no way you could connect Judy's mother with my grandmother, but it didn't matter. Family and love know no such boundaries. And when my father and Judy adopted three more girls, my grandmother considered them her grandchildren, and her their grandmother. Because love does not know where the lines are.

There is no way a person could have as much love as this, except one. It wasn't the way she was raised. It wasn't the way she was wired. It wasn't the choices she made. It was one thing - who she met. At some point in her life, she met and received Christ as her lord and savior, and it was God's love that filled her up. You see, once God starts pouring his love into your heart, it's never going to stop. It just fills up and keeps pouring out, touching everyone you know. That's how my grandmother, my Milco, became a woman of love. Because she was a woman of God.

At funerals it is common to say that we will meet again, because to some, it feels good. Not everyone who says it or hears it may believe it, but it's something soothing to say. However, I know, from the very foundation of my soul, that I will see my grandmother someday. We'll play another game of Canasta, and play horseshoe on a hill far greener than one you or I have ever seen. Perhaps she'll will have learned new games to teach me.

Abe- you know what a bastard I can be. That had me in tears. Your Grandmother is lucky to have you. She sounds like an amazing woman. My grandmother and last living grandparent died valentines day 6 years ago and I miss her.
