Sad news. He was one hell of a defensive coordinator.

Very sad indeed. Thoughts and prayers with his family and friends. Was never an Eagles fan, but greatly appreciated watching what he was able to do with his defense and how much the guys seemed to love playing for him.

He may be gone but I think his strategy will live for many years

Wow. Just...wow. I knew it was bad...but I didn't think he'd pass on. He was a fixture on that sideline.

My thoughts go to the family, and to the organization.

Football lost a great defensive mind.

RIP Jimmy.

Can't believe it went down that quickly. I didn't expect to see him on the sidelines ever again but I was looking forward to the odd day where he'd be shown up in the press box with the fans roaring as they saw him on the Jumbotron.

Very sad news. I followed the Eagles closely while in college because a friend was a die-hard fan. I'll always remember cheering for Johnson's tenacious defenses with blitzes coming left and right. He will be missed.

Wow, I knew he had cancer... but didnt he just step down like 2 weeks ago?

Ive been a kinda eagles fan for a while (growing up cheering for the Bengals, and living in philly during the good years was infectious) and he was always my favorite!

He took a leave of absence in April/May and someone was named acting DC. That guy was made permanent two weeks ago.

This went really fast. I guess if you're going to die anyway that's better? I am in the "this sucks" camp.

Agreed on all counts - I was envious of the Eagles D coordinator ever since I saw his rating in Madden back in like.. 05 or so..

Definitely one of the best defensive gurus there has been.

Thought this was a nice article about him being featured on ESPN.com.
