Sam Raimi to direct World of Warcraft movie

Well, I don't know what this movie will be like, but Raimi knows what he's doing with big projects, since he's directed all the Spider-Man movies. I guess we'll see how it turns out. Will Mr. T and Verne Troyer get to play their online characters, like in the ads?

Rumor was that William Shatner was going to be in the movie, but they decided to get someone younger to play his character.

I'm going to hope that, as with much of what Blizzard does, this will have a fair bit of humor thrown in, which is perhaps why Sam Raimi was pursued. If it's a serious live-action film I fear it'll end up more like the D&D movie than, say, LOTR. It'll also be interesting to see if the story ends up being based on existing plotlines from the game, or something new. I'd vote for something new, to be honest.

And if the following exchange (stolen shamelessly from some WoW comic) is in the movie, I'll be quite happy:

Pile of Ashes: I think I may require the services of a healer.
Priest: Walk it off, pussy.

I can't imagine this being anything other than total crap. WoW is a cool game, but lets be honest: the storyline for Warcraft is pretty boring/derivative. Couple that with Sam "Good Peter/Bad Peter" Raimi, and I think we're in for a real crapfest with this one.

*yawn*

but i agree with Fidatelo.

massive stinker waiting to happen. That being said I'm sure given the number of fanatical players of this game (never understood that TBH) that it'll do a decent box-office, so the question will be "how many casual / non-fans will it need to pull in to break-even)

Guessing it will be a new story that connects with a fresh expansion.

I like most of Raimi's work, although the Spiderman movies are all pretty overrated. As long as they keep the talentless action hero actor types like Seagal and Rock out of it, there is a chance it will be watchable.

The Rock is awesome. He's not an Oscar guy, but he's funny and great at action stuff.

Don't count on it, these aren't people who leave their parents basement for long periods of time.

Apparently 2 1/2 hours of the movie finds the atagonist farming evil farmers for their skulls, due to the poor drop rate.

I don't care how many bad movies and tv shows he makes, Raimi will always have a place in my heart for the Evil Dead.
