Exactly, and if you are looking at what you consider the next best thing, you won't appreciate what you have. It's a dangerous mindset to have as even if you get that next best thing, you're on to the next one after that.

That's an interesting statement because how do you know when/if you settled? I've heard a lot of my friends (who are married) say that you know right away. But these are the same friends who are having terrible marriages.

It's tough to say. But if you don't believe you've settled then you haven't. I also don't believe there is such thing as settling in regards to the person you are with. If you love someone and are happy, then you lucky and in no way settled. I think you can settle for being in a bad relationship however.

I knew pretty much right away myself. But I also know more each day that I am married. I'm very blessed/lucky

It gets worse as you get older.

After a while, you just stop caring and before you know it, you're 40.

I have a friend who keeps getting married & divorced to women that you look at and wonder when he is going to get a good set of glasses. I'd rather divorce a woman that was fine than one who was ugly (with the personality of a wild boar to boot.)

I guess I just don't get it. There's so many women out there, that I find it hard to believe (other than some overt fear of talking to them or some over the top ridiculous standards) that someone could go a long time without having some luck.

hey look - you pointed out my issues!!!

I should add that i'm not afraid of talking to them, I'm just bad at the whole "approach" thing. Like once I have some sort of basic groundwork down there (coworkers, friends, etc) I can talk to women all day long. But if I saw a good-looking woman on the street, or in a store, or whatever, I would have absolutely no idea what to say to go up and break the ice and get her engaged in me.

Maybe that's part of the reason why I enjoy that dreadful VH1 "Pickup Artist" show, because as canned and hokey as those lines and everything are, it's at least other guys who are facing that same inability and fight through it.

Maybe I should be on that show.

Don't get me wrong, there's a reason you don't see me on the cover of GQ, but, I have had my share of 'luck'. You'd be blown away by just saying hello and how far that can get you. My thing is to just have fun with it and not act like a jerk. Haven't seen that show, but, something tells me it doesn't help much. I could be wrong though.

I think the approach is the hardest (the whole fear of rejection thing) to overcome. Keep it simple. You'll know right away, well, most of the time you will. My thing is, there's so many women, if this doesn't work out...NEXT!

I've met women at quite a few different 'venues', work, the bar, a club, online, sports, Jack in the Box drive thru, playing music, movie theater, etc...

I'm also not super picky about the type of woman I like. I like many different body types and I don't care what race they are. So, that opened up more choices for me. My only requirements are: don't be psycho, don't be stupid and have a sense of humor. The first one, you don't always find out until it's too late, but, hit the eject button and move on.

DT, you just have to suck it up and approach them. As long as you say something non-cheesy, the worst that will happen is the girl will flatter you for a few seconds and then come up with an excuse to leave. Or she completely ignores you. But it's guaranteed she's heard all the terrible pick up lines before, and those are the guys she laughs to her friends about, not the guy who took an honest shot and wasn't a creep about it.

You'll never see her again after the night and no one will point and laugh at you.

With my brother and sister-in-law both thinking each other had more money until after they got married, people tend to scare the shit out of me unitl I feel I know them. For example, I was teasing this one girl online and on the phone, then as soon as we met she asked me to dare her to do something. Cutest ass or not, I felt rushed.
