I think it is the difference between a 3 chip DLP projector and a more traditional film based one. I rarely go to the movies. My friends say the digital is a lot better fwiw.

I've seen a few, there's usually some degree of noticeable improved clarity but I'd say the biggest advantage is that you don't have to worry about the film breaking.

I've only seen one digital, and it's a fairly noticeable difference. It basically eliminates any of those lines or pops on the screen.

Its really like the difference in watching a video tape played 200 times (those movie reels get run a LOT) vs watching a DVD. No visual "noise" and colors seem to pop. Animated stuff is real nice, as are SFX heavy films.

:giggle: cuz you typically worry half to death about the film breaking? I mean, I'm 38 years old and have seen hundreds of films in the theater I'm sure, and I can only think of one time this has happened to me (Clash of the Titans FTW!!!). Is this something we live in fear of? |

If you go see a movie a week or two after release, there's a good chance the reel will start to degrade.
The film broke in Titanic when I was seeing that. |

Seriously? Once? Damn, I've had it happen with the same movie more than once.
