$500K of Counterfeit NFL Apparel Seized in Tampa
Celizic: Beware fans — some NFL gear hardly Super - Super Bowl XLIII- nbcsports.msnbc.com

Is it just me, but why is the "official" NFL apparel so expensive? I've paid $50 for a jersey and $150 for an official jersey with the letters, etc. stitched on. I wouldn't spend $350 on a jersey though. |

I'm glad the Department of Homeland Security is making us safe from terrorist apparel counterfeiters.

If I bought a jersey and it fell apart, I really don't think the first thing that would come to my mind would be that the NFL puts out a crappy jeresy, I'd say that whoever made the jersey sucks ass.
I really don't think that the NFL has a jersey factory with NFL employees making them no more than Martha Stewart has her own factory making Martha Stewart products.

How do they know? I get that the NFL has they copyright and that they aren't paid for the knockoffs. The article says, “The proceeds are funneled to other criminal activities both here and abroad.” My question is, couldn't that be true for any business??? Again, not to excuse the counterfeit merchandising, but this smells like the government justifying its own purpose. Also, I'll make the free market case that counterfeits wouldn't be as big of a deal if official NFL merchandise were priced more competitively in the first place. |

??? Organized Crime? other criminal activities both here and abroad? That can mean anything... I do not get why the Department of Homeland Security is involved. It is a job for customs and the FBI. EDIT: Has the US Customs Service been folded into Homeland Security? Then it would make more sense they were involved.
