I have no idea of tax rates in Spain, but I will assume it's high. If so then Every winner walks away with less then a million after taxes. 1.6 million before. It's nice, don't get me wrong, but not as advertised I would say.

And what do punters have to do with this? Are they left over from NFLEuropa?

Because of how the Spanish Christmas lottery ticket distribution works, the overwhelming majority of the Gordo winners will be from the same city.

So if it hit in Toledo, he just might be.

There's tons of "winning" tickets, so the prize isn't as big as it sounds. I forgot the exact amount for the Gordo prize, but it's not $1 billion or anything like that.
