Whatever happened to that sandwich, Hero?

Seemed like people loved it for a while. Did people get over it?

I think the answers are in Wikipedia. It may just be known by another name.

Cosmo — North Central Pennsylvania in and around Williamsport — an oven-toasted sub.
Grinder — Midwest, New England, Fairfield County, Connecticut. Inland Empire of Southern California.
Spuckie — Boston, Massachusetts (used particularly in Italian immigrant neighborhoods)
Wedge — Prevalent in Yonkers, parts of the Bronx, and Upstate New York.
Zeppelin — New Jersey; Phoenixville, PA and Norristown, PA.
Torpedo — New York, New Jersey, other areas.

Unless you are asking someone who is sitting next to you in a costume with an empty plate what happened to the sandwich you just purchased?

I love me a hero. I still have at least two a week. Of course, eating a hero makes you thirsty, so I always make sure to have a tasty beverage handy:

I always see Grinder associated with New England, but never have actually heard anyone use the term. Sub.

My grandparents (New Britain, CT) called 'em grinders.

Yup. I live in West Hartford, CT (right near New Britain) and that's what they're called here.

The funny thing is, I went to college in Bloomsburg (somewhat near Williamsport)...and have spent a good bit of time there. Never heard of a cosmo...have heard several people call them "grinders" though, to define an oven-baked sub.
