Amazing actually, there were 3 starters in the game from RU. Stapleton, Foster, and Brackett. Maybe Pedro Sosa will work his way up the depth charts for Miami, as I think Zuttah is already starting for TB.

This is the first time I ever remember rooting for the Niners. I know it's semi delusional, but if Seattle takes both games against Arizona they'll only have to make up one other game the rest of the way to over take them for the division lead (and only have the Niners to leap frog).

Like I said, delusional, but Hasselbeck coming back next week is one of the few spots of hope Seahawk fans have had this season.

yeah it gets pretty scary for the Cards if they lose this game because they have a tough schedule the rest of the way-Seattle with Hasselbeck back, Philly, Giants, New England. Tonight the Cards defense is practically non-existent, so Warner better throw for 400 yards if they want to win it looks like

Um, Singletary is gonna slice Davis's throat for the non-effort on that play. That was a totally catchable ball.

so as horrible a throw as that was by Hill, the play call was way worse. Why on earth arent they running Gore in that spot when it is obviously 2 down territory?

Why exactly was the clock not reset to 14 seconds (or however many were on the clock when Gore went down)?

Horrible play call, good job Martz.

The playcalling down the stretch was ABYSMAL for the Niners.

God that was gut wrenching. My wife felt like she was going to be sick. I thought that was one of the worst pass defenses I've ever seen but they did hold them at the end. Whew.

Man that was an awful game. Cardinals kept trying to give the 49ers the win with 2 TD's called back, numerous stupid penalties and pathetic pass defense.

Since the play was upheld, what happened after I guess happens too. I had the same thought (even rewound the DVR to make sure I wasn't crazy and that there was more time).

I don't get bleeding the clock all the way to 20....If you're gonna run(potentially), leave yourself 30 or 40 seconds. If you get beat going the other direction your defense....

I don't see why that matters since nothing "happened" (from a play standpoint) after that. Why were the Niners penalized because the officials took 12 seconds to decide that it should be looked at?

The clock doesn't stop when a player's knee goes down and a review isn't instantaneous. Normally, the play continues and before the next play is called a review takes place. If there isn't an event in the game to stop the clock, I don't think you can reset it because "a review should have been called sooner".

The normal flow of what would have happened if the call was what it should have been prevails. Otherwise, it's really a penalty to AZ, because they had 12 seconds where they could have run a play and didn't before the review. They shouldn't get those 12 seconds back. If the review had turned a complete pass incomplete though, it would have rolled back to 14 seconds (because the clock shouldn't have run on an incomplete pass).

Yeah. If this were the case, you could have players catch the ball in the middle of the field with 5 seconds left - go to the ground and immediately "fumble" after hitting the ground in hopes of getting a review for one more play. Let the play finish as normal, call the review and if changes per the review (ie, incomplete) cause a reset then so be it. A booth review shouldn't equal a timeout for the offense.

Ugh, just caught some of Singletary's press conference. Right off the bat he says this (about the final call):
"Well, coach Martz thought there would be a cavity up the middle and he made that call. Now, you have to live with those results."

For a guy who takes his pants down and preaches integrity/accountability, that's a pretty chickensh*t thing to say. Last I checked, Mike S (not Mike M) is the head coach and has the final say.

How Shitty are the Niners, really? I listened to the game on the radio(my Marv Albert looking old in game calling), and it was a flag fest in critical situations. And then the whole 40 seconds left thing. Embarassing. You set up, and spike the f'n ball. Seriously, it doesn't take rocket science there.

Anyways, glad to see them pounding the rock to Gore.

When he threw the player under the bus, I thought it might be justified to shake things up. Now he throws a coach under the bus, and you have to wonder if he isn't just deflecting attention/blame from himself.

You know, this makes no sense to me. The team played a lot better, a lot of the changes (Hill, running the ball more) seem to be Singletary's doing. They came up short against a team which was a double digit favorite on them and has an excellent shot at a playoff bye. They didn't win, but I don't see why Singletary would distance himself from any part of it. All he had to do was say that the effort was a lot better, I credit our guys for playing hard/tough and next time we'll get it done.

And now Martz is blaming the officials for reviewing a play after they spiked it, reversing the spike, then moving the ball back 1.5 yards, then winding the clock when they had no chance to call a different play. The NFL is claiming that they saved the 9ers a penalty by not accepting the spike, and that the 9ers still had time to spike the ball again to stop the clock.

I love how the 9ers coaches keep passing the buck on blame for this ending...
