I'm very confident Obama will win and that we're doomed. Feel free to attribute that vote in whichever column you feel best.

I'm confident that Obama will win, but don't really care. Though I am looking forward to it just for the reaction of all of the racists who can't believe a black man (or half-black, which might be even worse) is going to be elected president.
Most of all, I'm just looking forward to the end of all of the stupid political commercials. It's almost to the point now that I hate those commercials as much as I hate the politicians themselves. Edit: Also, I agree that the US is doomed, but I don't think any president could change that. All empires fall. Last edited by billethius : 10-30-2008 at 09:45 AM. |

This seems to be an odd reason to look forward to an Obama victory. It's like rooting for Clay Aiken to be president because it'll make Fred Phelps have a coronary.

I'm hoping Obama will win and think he will probably will. However, I do have a sense of doubt about him winning.

No, no, no ... I wouldn't feel that way if it was some random black guy off the street. Obama is very intelligent and qualified for the job. But as I said in the original post, I don't really care who wins because I think all politicians are basically the same. An Obama presidency will have the same overall effect on my life that a McCain one would - with the added benefit that some people I know (and plenty of others that I don't) are going to freak out when he's elected purely because he's black, rather than any issues they might have with his policy stances. And who wouldn't want to see Fred Phelps have a coronary? Last edited by billethius : 10-30-2008 at 10:38 AM. |

There should be a "I am excited cause I don't have to listen to people bitch about politics and watch stupid political commercials" choice.

Unfortunately I think the whole presidential vote is based on one group of people trying to make another group miserable over a period of time rather than selecting the best candidate. That's why I hate political parties.

Nice!! Although, I would replace Clay Aiken with that blue guy from the Doodlebops, and Phelps with Pat Robertson. (My photoshop skills rule!!)

I don't want to get too optimistic but looking at the Electoral Map it's very difficult to see McCain winning due to Obama's significant leads in PA, VA, CO, NM, and IO, four states that GWB won plus PA where the McCain campaign is hoping for a miracle.

The only thing that's stopping me from being completely sure is that the Swift Boat machine is firing up again, and dread that America can't fall for it again, CAN they???

All of the evidence seems to point toward an Obama win. But I put myself down as a toss-up because I think that there is some validity to the argument that this election involves factors that have never occured before and, therefore, that might throw the polls completely out of whack.
I don't so much think that it is a toss up as I think that we really don't know what the real state of things are (i.e. we have poor information about the state of an unknown race vs. having good information about a close race). |

I try not to put too much into the polls but man they were pretty accurate in 2004. A lot of things are different this year and while some of those could hurt Obama's actual numbers compared to the polling (evidence suggests the Bradley Effect doesn't exist but who knows, undecideds going with McCain maybe) some should help (unprecedented African-American and 18-29 year old turnout, lots of polls leave some of these guys out saying they aren't "likely voters").

They can fall for anything. Hell, look at the current polls. A socialist is in the lead, and a quasi-socialist is close behind. Substance means nothing. It's all about the cult of personality.

I'd vote for Vernon Reid if he promised to play that crazy-ass guitar we all know and love.

Yes. I don't think Obama will win the blowout that some are predicting, but I'm confident about a 4-6 point margin and probably just over 300 EVs (then again, in 21st century presidential politics maybe that counts as a blowout). Either way, I don't care, but I don't think we're doomed either. The country is remarkably resilient regardless of which party's lying lawyer takes occupancy of the White House every four years. |
