batman 3

Michael caine spilled some big “batman 3” secrets at the toronto film festival. He let slip to “mtv news” that johnny depp and phillip seymour hoffman have been cast in the next batman film. Depp will play the riddler, and hoffman will play the penguin.

Wow. If true, both of those guys are going to nail those roles. It's going to be hard to match what Ledger did, but those are two great casting choices.

None of this is confirmed yet. Last I heard Depp's people still say they haven't contacted him, and Nolan hasn't even signed onto the pic yet. Notice that Cain says he read this in a paper, those same notoriously raggy and wrong Brit papers, no doubt.

That's not actually true. The exact story goes as follows:

Caine asked “how do we top Heath”, and the WB exec says something hypothetical like “I’ll tell you how, Depp and Hoffman as Riddler and Penguin”

It's not confirmed and like I said in a different thread, Nolan hasn't written a script yet or signed on to even direct a third movie. Now, if you want to discuss Spiderman 4 and 5 with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire signed on, that's fine.

Misleading article title. He says no to the rumor, but he doesn't say no to the Penguin.
