A while back I wrote a post about the possibility of moving to Singapore. Well, that never eventuated. However, now my girlfriend has been offered a role over in Denver, and we are both much more enthusiastic about that - my gf because she is from the States originally, and me because, well, go Nuggets.

It's not close to a sure thing to happen as yet, mainly because she has some problems moving away from her family, but I'm certainly pushing for it.

One concern though is me finding work. Anyone know what the job market like in Denver, in the IT field?

Chances are a head coaching position could be open in a year or two if you like hockey.

Well, I don't know most of the rules and I haven't watched a full game in a long time, but I'll be damned if I didn't used to completely kick ass in both Blades of Steel on the NES, and Mutant League Hockey on the Sega.

It's good, only a slight slowdown.

What Bucc said.

A fellow Nuggets fan? You must like punishment too.

If this happens, give me PM. We'll go to some games. (I got a pretty nice "in" on some tickets)

Nah, I'm not really a Nuggets fan (Cavs fan unfortunately), but above all else I'm a basketball fan, and I'd happily adopt the Nuggets for the time I'm over there (if I'm over there). Will definately take you up on that offer if we make the move.

Had a big discussion about it with my gf just now and most of the questions are now about how easy or difficult it would be for me to get a working visa. Going to do my research now.

Groundhog,

I am in the IT Security field in Denver if you have any questions PM me. As others have said the IT industry here in Denver hasn't slowed down much of course it depends like always on your skillset and experience.

Thanks Galaril, I'll likely fire you off something shortly. I've been looking at Visas and Australia and the US have a professional visa, but it requires already having a job lined up. Outside of that, it's going to be tough to get a working visa in the States I fear.

I think that is going to be a stumbling block for you. I've looked at this in the past and it seemed pretty difficult.

Now if your girlfriend is American and you were to get married . . .

if you're engaged and getting married within six months, there is the I-129F fiance visa that you might be eligible for and it is non-renewable. After that you apply for a temporary permanent resident visa (yes, that's what it's called) and it should allow you to get a job, pay taxes, etc. After the 2 year (i think) period, you are eligible for the permanent residency (green card).
