"Who takes it.. Whose Cuisine Reigns Supreme?"
You know.. I never understood why Food Network or the original Japanese Producers never put out DVD's of Iron Chef. They basically made their network off that (look at the Iron Chef America, the Next Iron Chef, etcetera) and ran with it for years. Now I know they'd much rather make their own stars and all that..
but geez, I am still addicted to the show, and now that Food Network has taken it off the network, I'm having to look for quasi-legal ways to get my Iron Chef fix.

Food Network used to air Iron Chef (Japanese version) every night at 2 am. And then they cut it back to one showing per week, and now I can't find it at all.
(it may be my service though, I see they're still listing it on their site)

The original and best Iron Chef airs on Fine Living at 11pm every night.
It's about time someone picked it up. It's much better than Iron Chef America. |

that original show rocked. i was always a morimoto guy but was always entertained by chen kenichi (and his constant smile) and hiroyuki sakia (and his very flarish style).
IC america nowhere near the quality. does anyone notice that whenever flay is on, the "judges" are falling all over themselves to suck his nuts? in spite of the fact that he is one dimensional as hell (name one single dish where he did not use some kind of chilli or pepper). |

I always thought it would be cool to have a "roaming" Iron Chef show that had battles between local Chefs from favorite restaurants in whatever area they were in for that show.

If I were as quick and tough, I'd be as great as all of them. I would say that 9/10 of the random concoctions I make are restaurant quality. But, of course I am not trained, and would be eaten alive by these people. Regardless, I love this stuff. If I were more humble and had the time and energy, I would probably be a pretty good chef. I wouldn't let those idiots defeat me.

Dude, they can make fucking NATTO look appealing. You would lose. You would be EPIC FAIL
edit: For those of you wondering what Natto is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natto Nattō (納豆, Nattō?) is a traditional Japanese food made from fermented soybeans, popular especially for breakfast. As a rich source of protein, nattō and the soybean paste miso formed a vital source of nutrition in feudal Japan. For some, nattō can be an acquired taste due to its powerful smell, strong flavor, and sticky consistency.

This thread makes me happy. I discovered that FLN started rebroadcasting these about a month ago, and I am still surprised at how much entertainment you can squeeze out of this show. I put it on my DVR schedule and with the dearth of crap suddenly on every other channel, it's saving my TV life.
The dubbing is truly phenomenal. Whoever does the voices should get some kind of nobel peace prize or something. The way they can emote dubbed "hmmmms" and "uhhhs" is inspired. And I come away from every show wanting to marry and devote my life to whomever the female guest was. Pretty much every judge on the show gets me excited, too, which is just sad....to the point where I get so fucking stoked whenever I can see "Artist: Korn" and his big goofy square glasses and high-top fade that I just start screaming at the TV. And both of the cranky old ladies are sooper awesome. |

We don't get the Fine Living Network

I was always a Chen man. The friend I watched it with was a Sakai guy. Tho I think Morimoto will always have a special place in fan's hearts for wiping the floor with Bobby Flay SI

Well, there was a link I found with 157 episodes of Iron Chef in one torrent, but since it's still on Fine Living, I left it alone for now.
But I liked Chen.. not only am I a fan of spicy chinese style cooking, but you could tell the poor guy was really putting in the effort.. he looks like he sweated off a couple pounds in each battle.
