Of the best pictures, I have only seen "No Country..." and "There Will Be Blood." I thought both had their flaws, but I enjoyed them and thought the acting was very good in both.

From what I have seen, I think Daniel Day-Lewis is deserving for Best Actor and Javier Bardem was incredible in "No Country..." (I'm looking forward to seeing him elsewhere to see what else he can do) and should have a good shot at Best Supporting Actor.

Only one I bothered to see was "There Will Be Blood."

Especially since "No Country" is due out on Blu-ray soon.

I've seen all the best picture nominees. NCFOM was probably the best, but I'm rooting for TWBB 'cause I love Paul Thomas Anderson. And I'm rooting against Juno.

Casey was fantastic in Jesse James, and I was almost rooting for him to pull off the upset but I think it was pretty clear Bardem was going to win, and he's definitely deserving.

DDL better win for best actor or it's a huge travesty.

I've only seen No Country and Juno. No Country was boring to me in at least a couple of parts. And I only really liked the bad guy. Juno was a nice story with quirky characters. That's my opinion at least.

Yeah. This was definitely one hell of a strong year for movies. Two of my favorites I feel are underrepresented this year, would be big in an average year, are The Assasination of Jesse James and Into The Wild.

As I said in the movie thread, I was rooting for George Clooney, but I am not surprised nor disappointed that DDL took the Best Actor, as expected. Both performances were exceptional.

The Oscars went down pretty much as expected for the most part. No real surprise at any of the major awards. I was a little surprised, by happy, to see Tilda Swinton take best supporting actress. Going in, I figured Javier Bardem, DDL, and Diablo Cody were shoe-ins for their respective awards. The best director/best picture was a toss-up between "Old Country" and "There Will Be Blood".

As for you Ellen Page haters... What's wrong with you people? She's delightful and she was Kitty Pryde. 'Nuff said.

The award that made me the happiest was for best original song. That song from "Once" was by far the best of the lot and I'm glad it won. It was pretty cool of Jon Stewart, or whoever made the call, to let the woman come back and get a chance to talk.

Other than that, I was glad I waited an hour before starting to watch it.

I read about Once recently and thought it was such a neat story. And those two are now a real life couple, too. But I watched video of what Jon Stewart did and that was really classy. But watching their performance of the song was so awesome, because they just look so happy to be up there and he keeps looking back at her like "can you believe this? are you okay? we're really here?" and that's just too cool. Great song, too.

A lack of pre-show promotion, coupled with a generally low-key awards season hurt by the three-month writers’ strike, apparently hobbled this year’s Oscar ceremony.

Last night’s “80th Annual Academy Awards” on ABC averaged a 21.9 household rating and 33 share in the metered markets, according to Nielsen.

That was off 21 percent from last year’s 27.7/42, though certainly ratings could adjust up or down when more numbers are released later today. Time-zone adjusted fast nationals will be out sometime after 3 p.m., which will include total viewer and adults 18-49 estimates for last night’s show, which aired from 8:30 p.m. to 11:38 p.m.

But based on the early numbers, ABC could see record or near-record low numbers for this year’s show, hosted by Jon Stewart.

This year’s metered market rating was the lowest since at least 2000, according to Media Life records. It was off 14 percent from a 25.5/37 metered market rating in 2003, when the Oscars drew their lowest audience on record, just 33 million total viewers.

Last year’s ceremony drew just over 40 million.

That's too bad. I think Stewart did a pretty good job and it was a decent show all around.

I hope they invite him back to host again, this was going to be a bad one rating-wise regardless. Everything has gone bad up to this.

Put me in the wished for Casey Affeck to pull the upset. Jesse James was my favorite movie of the year last year. I am not upset that No Country won best pic as that was my #2 film of the year.
