Fidel Castro resigns

http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2...l-castro_N.htm

This should be an interesting next couple of years.

This is really just symbolic. Wait until Raul dies before anything significant happens.

+1

my sister went to Cuba last year. I've seen the pictures...very beautiful, but very...almost stuck in the 50's / 60's.

Ya, it's almost like they got stuck in early February of 1962... odd.

Not so sure about that. A large part of Fidel's success was his aura and cult of personality. Raul seems to be from all accounts a rather dull person. Maybe he is an efficient bureaucrat, but he doesn't seem to be a true leader.

lol

it's really amazing though, you see the pictures and you just go "wow"

it's beautiful though, very beautiful. Just interesting that it's 2008 and you see streetcars from the 50's going down the streets, and 1950's era fridges, etc.

Okay, fair point, I'll fix it.

Very similar to North Korea - Minus the 2008 cars.

I find it pretty amusing that we've tried to off the guy for how many years yet he is still able to leave pretty much on his own terms.

Yeah, they are definitely clamoring for the return of the Fulgencio Batista's jackass cronies that live in Miami and have been dictating American economic policy toward Cuba since the fall of the USSR. I won't say they were before, as the embargo was more relevant back then. Now? It's all about the Florida vote.

Welcome to Communism. Especially in a 3rd world country to boot (unlike what the USSR was under Communist control). With that being said, good riddance to Castro and hello to more communism. Nothing will change down there as long as the citizens put up with it. I guess that is what our government has never figured out about any of these places.

Probably because there is not a whole lot to talk about at this point. No one really knows what Raul will do at this point. While Fidel has retired, he is not dead yet. How much of an influence he will have on Raul is unknown. Honestly, I don't think anybody has really any idea what will initially will happen if(when?) Cuba is no longer under communist rule. What will be the impact of the people of Cuban descent that will go back and try to claim property that used to belong to them before Castro's rule? Will anyone actually go back? There is just too much that we don't know at this point.

I heard Fidel stepped down because he is too busy watching Big Brother online. No time to run a country with 24/7 live internet feeds of the 21st century.

I heard he wants to get himself prepared for another tryout with the Washington Senators.

North Korea is on a whole different level from any place in the world today, and possibly any place the world has ever seen. It's despicable the world let it get to a point where we're blackmailed into supporting that regime.

One statistic that sums it up - North Koreans are now on average 6 inches shorter than South Koreans.
