Big difference. Even by June, the nation did not know too much about Dukakis (outside of the party). From the summer to November, his unfavorable ratings climbed to the 40s (if I recall. I think I voted for him to spite Bush). It ran pretty much down party lines which at that time, resulted in a lopsided defeat. I don't know what Bush's ratings were like in comparison.

But Hilary's numbers are hard to figure out. She also is within the margin of error in OK versus any Republican named. She has very high negatives, but she also polls better than any other candidate Republican or Democrat.

Uh, I don't see how that quote is vague at all. She's definitely saying that she does not support torture. All she's saying is that she doesn't know if that will require a change in current policy because she doesn't know if torture is taking place right now, and she probably won't know until she's elected.
