That's too bad.

After being exposed to only his '80s and onward cameo-fests, I considered Altman vastly overrated for the longest time...until I started delving into his later work and really enjoyed a ton of it. M.A.S.H. was great, McCabe and Mrs. Miller is one of my all time favorites, The Long Goodbye, etc. etc.

The Player makes my list of favorite movies of all time. His work has been hit or miss with me (and with many) but when he hit, he really hit.

Short Cuts is probably my favorite Altman movie.

I never saw much of his films, but his work was a pretty important part of a film history class I took in college. The small pieces of his work that I did see were excellent.

Wow, as a huge movie fan this is a big loss. Short Cuts is my favorite of his

Although I didn't see it, I dont doubt he realized the possible poetic nature of closing his career with A Prairie Home Companion, which was about a long-time radio show putting on it's final performance.
