Dola..

This paragraph in the article REALLY bothers me..

Haywood's sister-in-law, Angela Jernigan, told The Dallas Morning News that the player began vomiting in his sleep Saturday at about 4 a.m. and that he then stopped breathing two hours later, prompting the family to call 911.

ESPN reports that Haywood died earlier today. The cause is still unknown.

I liked Haywood. I thought he had a chance to make it on the regular roster last year. Very sorry to hear this, he had a great chance to make this year's roster with the running back situation up in the air. I'm now thankful more than ever that Bill Parcells is in charge. Maybe the team can avoid the "curse of the player death" in the NFL that seems to drag teams down when football players realize they're not immortal.

I'm trying to figure out why that particular paragraph bothers you. I don't think it is normal to call 9-1-1 for vomiting. Just a couple of months ago my wife woke up vomiting, and it was probably 3 hours (after being unable to keep even water down and therefore getting dehydrated) that she let me take her to the emergency room. It usually takes more than vomiting for something to be considered an emergency situation.

Well generally, if you wake up vomitting.. something is seriously wrong, at the least your dehydrated, At the worst however.. is a heart condition that can cause death.. i wouldn't wait 2 hours to find out what it was.

Laying down almost constricts the ability to vomit.. unless something is wrong.. I think in his case(just guessing really) it would have been wise to get him to the hospital asap, and not sit around and wait for him to stop breathing.. as surely more signs showed up between waking up and stopping breathing

Very sad. He was a very promising player, but that's nowhere near what's important here. I realy feel for his family...

Just a thought, but maybe how this affects the Cowboys on the field this season isn't the most important thing to worry about at the moment.

It's always sad to see someone die so young. Really sorry to hear about this.

I hope that when the autopsies are completed that it isn't a poisoning or something that would point to foul play or substance abuse .

Sorry if that sounded callous because if anyone knows firsthand what it's like when this happens, it's me. My brother and two good friends died at that age. The fact is though that something like this affects football players more than other athletes. When you're raised since high school with the mentality to grind your body into the ground with no thought about your health or future, watching your peers die can tear a team apart. (See the Vikings and Corey Stringer for a recent example.) The Cowboys haven't had any solid leadership in years and they're lucky to have a strong leader and mentor in Bill Parcells that can help the team in this time of difficulty. Something as tragic as this probably would have ripped a Campo-Gailey-Switzer led team more so than Landry-Johnson-Parcells.

BTW, for those saying it has to be a drug overdose. My brother died the exact same way, got sick one night and died in his sleep overnight. The autopsy said it was a virus that killed him. People don't always die in a quick car accident or long battle with cancer. I read a recent article though that said he may have died of asthma.
