Hattrick-McGees Dynasty

I took over the team midway or so through last season and greatly improved it with a couple of transfers. We finished 4th last year, but we dominated teams near the end of the season. This is my first full season with a team and already we have played 3 league games. Here is what our series looks like:

V.195
Code:

1. McGees 3 10 3 9
2. El Banditos 3 8 0 7
3. Ilhavos 3 12 4 6
4. Locust 3 8 2 6
5. freeriders 3 3 5 4
6. Dillsburg Doeys 3 1 7 3
7. Atletic Colby 3 0 10 0
8. Athletes 3 0 11 0

I'll give a short review of each of our league games that we have played.

19.01 (4/7/2003)
Ilhavos-McGees
2-3

I anticipated that this would be the hardest match we may have to play all year. It was certainly a difficult one but we pulled out a victory in the 73rd minute. We held the ball with a 56% possesion rate in the first half and a 68% possesion rate in the second half. Best player for the McGees was Dagoberto Millet. Worst player was Jed Churchill. The goals were scored by Fred Dunbar, Jamie Duckworth, and Thad Amos.

19.02 (4/14/2003)
McGees-Dillsburg Doeys
5-0

This game was basically a slaughter. They were totally overmatched with their wretched midfield and the McGees cruised to a home victory in front of a nearly sell out crowd. We dominated the possesion with a 75% possesion rate the first half, and a 90% possesion rate in the second half. The best player was Dagoberto Millet once again, and the worst player was Jed Churchill. The goals were scored by Wen Hyun-Suk (3 goals, first career Hattrick for Wen), and Fred Dunbar had 2.

19.03 (4/21/2003)
Locust-McGees
1-2

This appeared that it would be a challenging game as well but I had a feeling they wouldn't be able to challenge me as much as Ilhavos had earlier in the season. I was correct and even though they took an early 1-0 lead we shortly tied it up and scored the winning goal in the 52nd minute. We once again dominated in possesion with a 66% rate in the first half and an 83% rate in the 2nd half. Best player was Dagoberto Millet and the worst was Dale Wood. The goals were scored by Wen Hyun-Suk and Fred Dunbar.

My team was knocked out of the cup in the 4th round by Tottenham SC.
We just finished expanding our stadium to 15,000 and the future looks very bright for the McGees with a new solid coach. We will be about $120,000 in debt but with a couple of good youth pulls we could be back above water very shortly.

I use the following tags:

{CODE} {font size="-1" face="Courier New, Courier, mono"}

Where the first set are the square brackets "[]" and the second are alligator brackets "<>". Also, you can get rid of the font size = -1 line, if you want to keep it regular sized. I just do that because it fits best in my reports.

The weekly economic updates occured and the McGees were $128,224 in debt. This week's youth pull was the best ever in McGees history and allowed us to put our passable keeper on the transfer list.

Here is the youth pull

Dalton Borden (11285856)
20 years, passable form, healthy

A pleasant guy who is balanced and righteous.
Has disastrous experience and weak leadership abilities.

Nationality: USA
Assessed value: 373 000 US$
Wage: 2 620 US$/week
Owner: McGees
Warnings: 0

Stamina: disastrous Goaltending: solid
Playmaking: wretched Passing: disastrous
Winger: disastrous Defending: disastrous
Scoring: disastrous Set Pieces: disastrous

He will now be our starting keeper and the 3rd one we have used this season. We decided our passable keeper's starting price would be $85,000.

19.04 Match Preview

Athletes vs McGees at Athletes Arena

New coach Jeff Schuler today announced the starting lineup for the game against Athletes later today.

"We will be playing a 3-5-2 today with Cordero, Dillon, and Amos as our defenders; Taylor, Crow, Millet, Duckworth, and Wood as our midfielders; and Hyun-Suk and Dunbar as our forwards. New youth pull Dalton Borden will be our starting keeper. Chris Taylor has been named as our team captain. We plan on playing it cool as the Athletes don't have the same talent level of our young men. Hopefully we can score a couple of goals early and leave no doubt who will win this game."

The game is set to start in 45 minutes. It appears plenty of McGee fans have made the trip to Ohio and are entering Athletes Arena as we speak waving their flags and brawling with Athletes fans.

Athletes-McGees
0-5

In Athletes Arena the league leading McGees faced the celler dwelling Athletes in front of 2,986 fans. The McGees used a 3-5-2 formation while the Athletes chose to go with a standard 4-4-2. The early minutes of the match were quiet, but by the 11th minute McGees winger Jamie Duckworth broke through the Athlete's defense and struck the ball home past Athlete's keeper Tony Sommers. The Athletes must have still been focusing on the last goal as only 3 minutes later Fred Dunbar capitalized on an error near the goalie box and knocked in an easy goal. This gave Fred Dunbar 5 goals on the season. After the first two goals McGees' coach Jeff Schuler decided to slow the game down. The rest of the first half went by with no major occurences. At the half the McGees were up 2-0 with a 71% possesion rate.

The second half began and Fred Dunbar soon struck. Early in the half Dunbar put a volley shot home and gave the McGees a 3-0 lead. Dunbar increased his goals to 6 on the year, tied for the series lead. Soon after, the McGees aggressive young defender Paul Dillon was shown a yellow card for shirt pulling. George Crow booted a shot from long range and put enough bend into it to put it past the keeper increasing the lead to 4-0. The Funk Parliament (McGees Fan Club) realizing the game was in the McGees control began lighting up blue darts and began to piss all over the seats in the already piss-smelling Athletes Arena. Defender Allen Cordero decided he needed a piece of the sweet action and in the 72nd minute he scored the McGees' 5th goal of the match. A yellow card was given to Duckworth and Hyun-Suk barely missed scoring the McGees' 6th goal but the rest of the match was uneventful. The final score was 5-0 and the McGees dominated the half with 89% possesion.

Atletic Colby vs. Locust
0-3

Locust appeared to play it cool in this game and at the end of the first half it appeared that was an unwise choice with a 0-0 score and Atletic had the possesion rate in their favor. However in the 2nd half Lewis Cardenas, David Ho, and Stacey Cuellar all scored goals for Locust and that was plenty for a Locust win.

freeriders vs. Dillsburg Doeys
6-1

In the first half the teams appeared to be somewhat evenly matched with a halftime score of 2-1 in favor of the freeriders. However the freeriders turned it on in the second half and scored 4 more goals while holding Dillsburg to none. Ceferino Cerro was the obvious star of this game by recording a hattrick for the freeriders.

El Banditos vs. Ilhavos
1-0

This was certainly the best game to watch tonight with the #2 and #3 teams going at it. Christian Silverman scored the game's first and only goal early on in the first half as the two teams battled to a 51%/49% halftime possesion rate. In the second half Ilhavos had a scoring opportunity in the 65th minute but the Bandito's defense recovered and knocked the ball out of the playing field. The two sides got increasingly physical and finally Ilhavos' Cole Mcalister was forced to leave the pitch with a shin injury. Although Ilhavos won the possesion rate in the second half, no goals came out of it leaving Banditos with the win.

Here are the league standings after 19.04

1. McGees-4-15-3-12
2. El Banditos-4-9-0-10
3. Locust-4-11-2-9
4. freeriders-4-9-6-7
5. Ilhavos-4-12-5-6
6. Dillsburg Doeys-4-2-13-3
7. Atletic Colby-4-0-13-0
8. Athletes-4-0-16-0

The McGees announced today that they sold "passable" keeper Lionel Holton. The final bid was $89,000, the team expects to receive just over $80,000 when the money is split to all parties involved.

The week went by with nothing major happening with the McGees. The reserves took a trip a trip down to Lousiana to play a friendly with the Louisiana Cyclones. The game ended in a scoreless tie. Both teams went with a 5-4-1 formation which may have accounted for the uneventful game. Meanwhile the front office in Idaho worked furiously to acquire some extra funds through daytrading. When asked how it was going McGee's manager Zach Peschke replied, "Not very well, but we did find a pretty good bargain for a Michael Bolton CD."

Earlier tonight the McGees announced their recent youth pull was Bob Phelps, a inadequate keeper who was promptly put on the transfer list at a price of $7,000.

Bob Phelps (11489840)
20 years, passable form, healthy

A pleasant guy who is calm and upright.
Has disastrous experience and inadequate leadership abilities.

Nationality: USA
Assessed value: 79 000 US$
Wage: 940 US$/week

Stamina: poor Goaltending: inadequate
Playmaking: disastrous Passing: disastrous
Winger: disastrous Defending: disastrous
Scoring: disastrous Set Pieces: disastrous

Even though the week seemed slow the front office is expecting quite the crowd for Sunday's home match against Atletic Colby. Even though Atletic Colby is 7th in the league McGees management believes they are an improving team and the game should be a good one to watch, but are still confident that The Funk Parliament will be dancing in the streets after a McGees victory.

McGees vs. Atletic Colby at McGees Arena
3-0

8,340 football fans showed up on a partly cloudy day to see the league leading McGees face 7th place Atletic Colby. The McGees went with their usual 3-5-2 formation while Atletic Colby showed up with a 4-4-2. The starting lineup for the McGees was Borden - Amos, Wood, Cordero - Ash, Millet, Crow, Dillon, Duckworth - Dunbar, Hyun-Suk. Atletic Colby started off with Root - Murphy, Helton, Butragueño, Cheuk-Man - Bland, Pelletier, Skidmore, Canfield - Rivas, Rector.

The first couple minutes of the game were quiet until in 8th minute when inner midfielder George Crow hooked a ball in front of the goal. A flurry of activity ensued but Atletic Colby's defense was able to clear it. The McGees were denied this time but minutes later defender Allen Cordero bent a free kick past the keeper making the score 1-0 McGees. Only two minutes later the McGees struck again. Defender Dale Wood broke through Atletic's defense and knocked an easy shot home to make the score 2-0 for the McGees. Dale Wood appeared to be intent on proving his worth to the squad, due to recent rumors about a possible transfer, as in the 15th minute he almost scored once more only to be denied by the post. The first half ended with McGees holding 74% possesion.

In the second half it was evident the McGees were bringing the troops back and would play a defensive game. In the 62nd minute though Atletic Colby almost gave the McGees a goal with a mistake from a young central defender but the McGees were unable to capitalize. In the 68th minute goal scoring extraordinaire Fred Dunbar took the ball away from a defender and circled the timid keeper and cooly knocked it home giving Dunbar his 7th goal of the season. The McGees had three scoring chances after their 3rd goal, but none were converted and the second half came to an end with McGees holding 92% possesion.

The final score was 3-0 McGees with goals going to Cordero, Wood, and Dunbar.

Ilhavos vs. Athletes at Lion's Den Arena
4-0

The game was no contest with Ilhavos unleashing the serie's leading scorer Rory Hebert against the Athletes defense. Hebert managed a hattrick and improved his season total to 9 goals. Constancio Arenas scored the other Ilhavos' goal. Ilhavos cruised to the easy 4-0 victory.

Dillsburg Doeys vs. El Banditos at Dillsburg Doeys Arena
1-1

In perhaps one of the more suprising results in the season Dillsburg Doeys was able to tie El Banditos who were considered one of the best teams in the league. Banditos had obviously the upper hand throughout the game with many scoring chances and a 77% possesion rate the first half and 85% possesion the second half. In the second half a Dillsburg Doeys corner kick resulted in a game leveling header. Dillsburg was able to hold on to the tie the rest of the match and came out of the difficult game with a point.

Locust vs. freeriders at Locust Arena
1-0

Two evenly matched teams met at Locust Arena and a great match ensued. In the 4th minute Locust put themselves up 1-0 and that was the only goal scored in the game. Many scoring chances were missed by both sides and even though the freeriders had the possesion edge Locust came out with the victory.

Team Played Goals Points

1. McGees-5-18-3-15
2. Locust-5-12-2-12
3. El Banditos-5-10-1-11
4. Ilhavos-5-16-5-9
5. freeriders-5-9-7-7
6. Dillsburg Doeys-5-3-14-4
7. Atletic Colby-5-0-16-0
8. Athletes-5-0-20-0

freeriders vs. McGees at freeriders Arena

The McGees will face their first competitive game in the series for the first time in a few weeks. The freeriders come into the game holding a 5th place spot after last week's lost to Locusts. The freeriders although in 5th place are veterans of V.195 and could give a good game on Sunday.

"The freeriders are definitely a solid team, but they have some flaws which I think our boys will definitely exploit," stated the McGees manager in a press conference on Sunday morning. The McGees manager went on and stated:

"Their midfield is quite below ours and their offense is very weak. I'm sure their strategy is to try and keep the game close. However with a few early goals we can almost guarantee victory."

The McGees are no doubt hoping for an easy win as they prepare for a doubleheader against El Banditos who are considered the 2nd best team in the series.
