Question need some USB help

Probably 6 months ago my computer was completely crippled by a virus/spyware/etc... I took it to a shop to get fixed and they completely reformated or reinstalled windows (or whatever the term for wiping it clean is). Anyway, after this I noticed my usb hubs, which are usb 2.0, were much slower than they were previously on transferring data to my jump drive. Wasnt a big deal at the time so I have let it slide.

However, I just got an ipod and would like my usb ports to be working at their best speed to transfer all my songs/videos over. When I put my jump drive in the msg pops up saying "this device could perform faster". I'm assuming this has to do with the reformatting of the hard drive and something getting wiped out that wasnt replaced, but I really have no clue with some of this stuff.

Any ideas what the problem would be or how to go about fixing it? Thanks!

Have you gotten the service packs for windows yet? I believe SP1 contains the drivers needed for USB 2.0. to see if you have USB 2 installed follow these steps.

hxxp://www.usbman.com/Guides/checking_for_usb_2.htm

Also if you do need the service packs just run windows update which can be found in the control panel.

k followed those steps and apparently I do not have the "enhanced" usb host controller. I'm running service pack 2. I know I had usb 2.0 when before and it worked fine. Now what?

If it's a brand name, go to their website and navigate to the downloads for your specific pc. If you have USB 2.0 capable ports, there should be a driver to download and install.

If your pc was built, you'll have to go to the website of your motherboard manufacturer.

*If it's an HP, Compaq, or Dell - give me the model number and I can point you in the right direction.
