I didn't want to post over there and break up your continuity - but this is a great idea and I love the level of detail so far - nice job!

Updated with number 27, and I think there might be some controversy around here with my pick.

You think the number three pick is strange? I think any objective list of the top thirty games of all time would have to include it.

Uh... maybe if we were talking about influence. Otherwise, probably not. Though I think yours is the ONLY list that probably has UO ranked even close to that high.

Example: IGN's Top 100 Games, which was done a few years back (not too long because it does have 'Rome: Total War' on it):
http://top100.ign.com/2005/index.html Ultima Online doesn't appear ANYWHERE on the list (though two Ultimas make the back end).

GameSpot's 15 most influential games of all time has UO 11th.

Like I said... if we are talking about influence it is important as the first bigtime MMORPG (argument made for Everquest, who could be considered the Warcraft II to UO's Warcraft I), but if we are talking about best games, its not on my list.

Well based on the Gamespot influential game list, it seems you'll be cramming at least 5 games into your #1 spot then .

Haven't read the dynasty yet today, but I can't imagine UO making a list like that. Almost everyone I know who played it complained about it all the time.... even if judging on influence alone Everquest just kills it.

oh lord.... this hurts my soul when i see people post this 2 completly different games that were made years apart. EQ was filled with bored house wives and loot chasers(not saying anything is wrong with that, different strokes for different folks. i personally thought people were insane camping the same monster for 6 hours just to get a super duper uber 'sword of kick some ass'). UO was so much more about skill based system(which is still 98439793753 times better then any level based), player run economy, PvP and GvG. No doubt EQ was a huge game and tons of people loved it, but comparing the 2 is apples and oranges.

*shurg*... I never really liked or played either one much. It's just my unbiased view based on watching and talking to a lot of friends who played both fanatically that EQ was both far more influential and better liked at the time than UO (although it was released 18 months later). Well... I guess I don't need to talk to others to see that EQ was more influential... the little I played of both and follow up MMORPGs like WoW and CoH is enough to see that. UO clearly had a very fanatical "cult" following though.
