FOF4: Curious

I just installed FOF4 on an older PC running NT4 and it runs much faster than it does on my newer PC running XP. hmmmmmm.

Nothing says "memory leak" like performance issues.

And remind me... memory leaks aren't the game designers' fault, right?

It depends on what is leaking. A memory leak in FOF would most likely show up regardless of the version of Windows it was running on. If the problem seems to be XP specific it is most likely a Windows issue. That isn't always the case, but it is most likely the answer.

Ummmm...let me be diplomatic about this:

Stock QA answer:

"Memory leaks are caused by a number of factors, one of the most prevelent being the memory management limitations of the operating system used."

That usually keeps my programmers happy!

Too bad NT takes 1/2 hour to boot up.

I guess XP must be the source of my problems then. It takes 2-3 MINUTES to sim each week of games for me, making it very hard to get into a rhythm. It's single-handedly driven me back to FOF2001.

What speed is your pc? I have a p4 2.0gig pc and I can sim a week's worth of games in about 10 seconds.

I would have to think that FOF4 is a little more enhanced than v2001, so it's probably doing alot more when simming games.

Of course, I could be wrong.

No, that would EA Sports fault.

That's hard to explain then, Fritz. Does it go considerably slow on your newer pc? I have no speed issues with FOF4, but OOTP5 is another story.

You guys running SP1, etc..etc..? Virus protection off... blah blah..

I have XP and have no problems whatsoever. It doesn't take more than thirty seconds to sim a week, so I dunno...

Most people probably know this, but it is worth noting that turning off your virus protection may speed things up. It has helped me out.
