You're talking around the issue, Fritz.
Yes, firsthand is only one perspective. Seeing the film doesn't imply not reading criticisms of it as well. I'm getting less interested in talking about this with you. |

I read the Ebert piece. It seems as if there's a "he said/he said" dispute in regards to the gun giveaway at the bank. The producer and Michael Moore say nothing was fabricated. The bank says the scene was set up.
Who are you going to believe, the guy with the history of misstatements or the people who look bad in the context of the movie?

I thought you were suggesting that critics were distorting the film like the middlemen you mentioned above. And I am not talking around the issue. You can get enough information on an artistic work (though I do not know if docutaiment should count) through a secondary source to reach some conclusions. For instance, you can know that Michelangelo's David is done is a realistic fashion, that it is so high, so wide, and made of a certain material. You can also know that his cock is showing. Likewise, you may have seen other work by Michelangelo and have an opinion of his product. This may be enough information to reach a conclusion on what the work means to you without ever seeing, smelling, tasting, feeling, or hearing the statue.

pardon me... who are you going to believe, the guy who collects a paycheck from the guy with a history of misstatements and half-truths, or the guy who comes across as looking bad in the film?

I don't need to see Master of Disguise to know it's bad.

You will likely believe the story that fits with your prejudices. In this case, you would believe the bank and I would believe Moore. Which one is correct?
