Trent Dilfer's son dies of heart disease
Trent Dilfer's son dies of heart disease
NFL.com wire reports KIRKLAND, Wash. (April 27, 2003) -- Trevin Dilfer, the 5-year-old son of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Trent Dilfer, died April 27 in California after a 40-day battle with heart disease. The boy's parents and three sisters were at his bedside at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford University. "Trevin was a very brave young boy and we are comforted in knowing that as a child of God he has returned to his maker," the family said in a statement. "We grieve, but not as those without hope." The Dilfers thanked supporters and hospital staff while requesting privacy, and a family spokesman said there would be no additional comment. Team president Bob Whitsitt said the organization was "deeply saddened" by the news. Services were pending. Dilfer played for the Baltimore Ravens when they won the 2000 Super Bowl, joining the Seahawks in August 2001. He missed the second half of last season with a torn Achilles' tendon. Sad news indeed.
I can't help but notice one other thing, due to the timing of his death and the NFL draft. Whenever I think of Trent Dilfer, I always think of the 1994 NFL draft, where Bill Tobin yelled at Mel Kiper for criticizing their selection of Trev Alberts over Trent Dilfer. Think Trent named his son after Mr. Alberts?? That whole episode was one of the best moments in NFL draft history. "Who the hell is Mel Kiper? My mailman knows more about the draft than he does." - Bill Tobin, Indianapolis Colts GM Last edited by Craptacular : 04-28-2003 at 02:26 PM. |

Sad news. I wonder if the Ravens could do it all over again, if they would have keep him instead of Elvis Grbac for their attempted Superbowl repeat year.

As a parent, this is absolutely heartbreaking.. Bar none, this is easily the one thing any parent fears most, losing a child..
My deepest sympathies to the Dilfer Family and any family that has had to go through something similar to this..

Very sad indeed. As a parent that is one thing that I hope I never have to face.
What is the deal with children of NFL quarterbacks and health problems. It seems that an unusual number of them have children with some sort of problem (not a majority or anything, just seems like more than the general population). |
