TPF Technical Issue - There Any Real Way to Resolve These?

What do I do with a TPF technical issue? I tried loading up TPF tonight and I got a runtime error (429) whether I tried a new game or to load an old game. I even downloaded a new saved game file and tried overwriting my saved game and loading that. No dice. I went to the MicroSoft site and they recommend re-d/ling my scripts, so I d/led the file they wanted me too and ran in and reinstalled my scripts - no dice.

Since 400 Software Studios has died a long dead death, is there anything I can even do with a technical issue?

Oh, and I also d'led and Regsvr'd a few files too. So my question is really who to go to, not what to do (although I'll take that too)

You can try this:

First uninstall then reinstall the game, in case it didn't finish installing the DLL files correctly the first time. If that doesn't work, click Run from your Windows Start menu, and type:

Regsvr32 scrrun.dll (and press enter)
Regsvr32 dx8vb.dll (and press enter)
Regsvr32 ovscombo2d.ocx (and press enter)
Regsvr32 ovsbooleancontrols.ocx (and press enter)

The other frequent culprits from .400 Studios were Microsoft Jet, MDAC (should be fine if you are running Win XP) or DirectX needing an update.

I did the first two, the last two can't be found. I ran TPF for months without problem, so I doubt I need to deinstall and reinstall, would I? What could have happened to prevent it from working?

Have you installed any other software lately? If so is it possible that installation could have changed some of the .dll's that the game was expecting to be able to run? (I'm not surprised it didn't find the last two, I believe those are more specific to some of the Grey Dog software packages)

I heard Mrs Kippy is looking for a copy. Maybe you could cut your losses?
