Top Six Teams in the AFC this year?
Steelers
Colts Broncos Patriots Jaguars Bengals with Palmer I can't see you making a case for anything better then number four for the Seahawks. Pretty much no brainer that the Steelers, Colts and Broncos are better. |

Just wondering if anyone can remember a year where the Conferences were this lopsided.

I think you can make a pretty easy case of Seattle being better than the Broncos.

How so? The Bronco's played in the AFC West a MUCH TOUGH DIVISION. Ahh never mind it isn't worth it. The simple fact is Seattles highly touted offense came up REAL SHORT in the big game. 10 Points..... Denver scored more then that... |

The anti Seatlle crowd is small in numbers but quite vocal.

Agreed. I'm starting to wonder which Seahawk stole his first girlfriend.

Seattle shows up as the 4th best team in the NFL in most computer systems, which of course account for the schedule you played. And the 6th best team in the AFC is typically around 9th or 10th overall. Last year was a lot more lopsided than this year.

I think you can argue that 6 of the top 7 teams came from the AFC, but I'd put Seattle as the second or third best team. Ahead of Denver and pretty even with or just behind Pittsburgh. Seattle and Pittsburgh were pretty even yesterday, but Pittsburgh did the little things necessary to win.
Next year I think there is a very good chance the top four teams are in the AFC when you look at Indy, Pittsburgh, New England and Cincinnati. Even San Diego might have a chance to move into that group.

Depending on how Seattle's offseason goes (pretty much referring to retaining Hutch and Alexander), the addition of Hamlin (hopefully) and Sharper to the defense I think would have them retain top 4 status in the league until the prove otherwise. Having Pruitt forced into action when Manuel went down really hurt whereas (again, hopefully) next season it'd be Manuel coming in if Hamlin or Boulware are hurt. The offense is what it is so long as you keep Hutch, but the defense is only going to get better after a year of seasoning and the return of two key elements from injury. If they get any sort of upgrade through the draft or free agency, the Seahawks *should* have a very legit defense.

I don't think it is all that unusual. In the late 80s and early 90s, the 49ers, even though they didn't always win the Super Bowl, were always among the best teams in the NFL. And, in most seasons, any combination of the Giants, Redskins, Cowboys and/or other NFC team that had risen up for a season (Bears, Rams, etc) were considered better than the best AFC team.

This is an easy case to make to put them at #2 on that list: 1. They beat the Colts. 2. They had a better record than all the other teams on that list. |

The Colts didn't play their starters. 6 games against their pathetic division gave them the better record. Hell, I'd put them 7th on the list. |

The Seahawks are the 33rd best team in the NFL.

Personally, i think the 6 AFC playoff teams and San Diego were the top 7 teams in the league.
