PING: VBulletin Experts: WYSIWYG and Word issues...

I used to think that there was no way to post using Word and WYSIWYG without all the goofy characters showing up. However, at some other boards I've had success in doing so. Unfortunately, the board admins at those places don't know why it worked there, and not here. Does anyone out there know of an admin setting or hack that gets rid of all of those goofy characters that you see below?

Falcons manhandle Panthers
Tougher defense, running game make lace w:st="on">Carolinalace> pay

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 09/11/06>>
Charlotte— When word came two hours before Sunday's season opener that lace w:st="on">Carolinalace>'s All-Pro wide receiver Steve Smith — the driving force of the Panthers' offense — would not play because of a bad hamstring, there was no rejoicing or relaxing in the Falcons' locker room.>>
A few defensive adjustments were made — cornerback DeAngelo Hall would be used against wideout Keyshawn Johnson in man-to-man coverage now and then — but the team's mind-set remained the same. Mercy was nowhere on the agenda in this NFC South clash with a team that beat the Falcons twice last season by a combined 51 points.>>

We've had this conversation before. :)

It's specifically related to that smiley, and the gibberish code Word automatically inserts.

Here's a snippet of Word's syntax:

HTML Code:
make <st1>:place

because the colon and the 'p' produce the smiley in question, that's how vB interprets it.

The only solution is to either a) not use WYSIWYG and strip out Word's extraneous crap, or b) assign that smiley a different "code". The downside to the latter is that it will break all previous uses of the smiley.

Dola, the "best" workaround might be to copy and paste from word into the WYSIWYG editor, then change the format (the "a/A" button in the top right). That will display all of Word's crap but will also retain the formatting you want to keep. Then you just need to delete all the extra shit.

But why is it that on some boards I don't have to do that???

I know on some boards the code uses a capital P instead of a lower case...

*shrug*

They would have their smiley set to a different characteristic, I would guess.

B-
QB Chris Donaldson has all the tools, but receiving corps is a question mark with lingering uncertainty about how well Damon Evans will perform when he returns. If he's up to snuff, look for this to be around a B+.
B+
With one of the better running games around, the Gridlock don't have to pass as much as other teams, but when they do, QB Nate Sutter has lethal weapons at his disposal in Fernando Weaver and Danny Hayes, with RB Randy Reagor catching it out of the backfield.
B
Orlando has a talented QB in Ted Wolf, and fine receivers in FL Darius Logan, SE Reggie Norris and young TE Norman McLover. RB Juan Davis is as good as anybody when it comes to catching it out of the backfield and doing something with it.
B+
Insert QB Shaun ”The Solution” Duncan, FL Tyrus Shaye, SE Harris Douglas, TE Frank Pruett, and RB R.J. Ellard into the appropriate places in Georgia and Orlando's scouting reports. Tucker has more depth than the others, though, with Forrest Truett and Darron Doyle as third and fourth wide receivers, respectively.

Conyers. Georgia. Orlando. Tucker. They are four strong teams, all with young stars just hitting their strides as league superstars. Only one can emerge as the AOC Southeast Division champions this year. Now that Cris Richardson is gone back to North Plainfield, will the “other” Chris, QB Chris Donaldson, finally assert that this is HIS team and step up to get it done? Can Randy Reagor repeat his incredible 2011 numbers for the Gridlock? Can Pretty Boy Ted Wolf and Company generate enough offense to outscore people and offset the Knights’ suspect defense? Will Shaun Duncan silence his many critics once and for all and prove that he is The Solution and lead the Tigers to the postseason for the first time in seven years? As the 2012 IHOF season unfolds, all of these questions and more will be answered. For now, though, we’ll compare the four teams in five key categories, and see how they stack up on paper.

PASSING OFFENSE
