I guess some of you who voted for invisibility as the Superpower you most wanted may be getting your wish some time in the not too distant future.

People that are supposedly walking behind are actually walking in front. It's a clever reflection coat.

Nah -- since it involves looking through the "viewfinder," it's probably just a green coat (like a green screen) on which another camera's shot of the background is superimposed.

So it's only an invisibility cloak to people looking through the rangefinder. Wouldn't you get the same effect having someone look through a blindfold?

That's what I was wondering. CNN has it too. It looks like BS to me. Either the writer of the story didn't understand what the "coat" does or the professor is trying to pull a fast one IMO. |

Did ya'll watch the video of it? It showed people moving behind the coat and then come out from the side. It's pretty damn cool, but it's just an optical trick. You have a wear a special viewfinder or something to be able to see the effect. It's not like someone can put on that magic coat and have no one see them.

The coat doesn't have a damn thing to do with it, it's a series of cameras, from what I gathered.
Kind of an interesting idea.....kind of... |

Yeah, I phrased that badly. Should have said "a magic coat," not "that magic coat."

Well, the air force along with Boeing's top secret plane research group have actually been seriously working on 'visibility' stealth for about 10 years now. The new little xplane that was announced a couple of months ago is quite possibly a testbed for it. Boeing claims to be testing the stealth capabilites (which they won't say what exactly they are 'stealth'ing from) during the day. Seeing as NOBODY had seen this plane before the unveiling, and normally regular stealth tech is tested at night so nobody sees, a lot of people are beginning to think that is what they are working on. Don't be too suprised with what you may see (or not _see_) revealed in the next 10 years.

I didn't understand the part about looking through a pinhole. But now that you mentioned a rangefinder, the optical illusion makes sense.

Would rather have the rings or be in the Hall of Fame?

Tasan - I also saw something saying that the B-2 Bomber and maybe even the new Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) use anti-gravity due to the ridiculously low thrust to weight ratios. Not sure if I believe it, but it is possible theoretically and I would not be that surprised if it were true.
