Going to Reno in November...

My wife is moderating a panel discussion at a conference being held in Reno in November. I've never been and have decided to tag along. So I'll have all day long to myself in Reno. The conference is being held at John Ascuaga's Nugget. I suspect it's one of the cheaper resorts because they are getting such a cheap rate.

Anyone have any suggestions of things to do in Reno, casino's to avoid, casino's to visit, etc?

I think one of the better casinos there is the Silver Legacy. I was there for one night a couple of years ago. I got lucky at the blackjack table and had a chance to get lucky with the dealer afterwards as well.

I've never been to Reno, but I think my aunt has (she's been just about anywhere there's a casino). I'll see what she knows about it, if she's been there.

The Nugget is far from the "strip" where Circus Circus, Silver Legacy, El Dorado, Harrah's, and a few of the other casinos are. In fact, the Nugget isn't in Reno. It's in Sparks, near the Reno Hilton.

Circus Circus and Silver Legacy are connected to each other and to the El Dorado as well. I highly recommend making a visit to those three as they're the best "strip" locations.

Atlantis also is supposed to be a nice resort as well, but I've never been to that one.

Reno is alot different the Vegas. While they've added stuff for kids and families at various properties and continue to do so, Reno is a little more traditional and probably alot like the old Vegas.

There are some dumpy casinos and it will be pretty obvious to figure those out on your own. Most of them are just holes in the wall, with no hotel or a simple motor lodge attached. Than again, some of those often offer decent payouts and lower stakes.

If you love casino gambling, you'll have a blast!!!

Too bad it's far from the Strip. I'll still have fun, but it would have been nice to be a little closer to the other things.

If you'll be there more than one day, and you have a car available, you should go to Tahoe - it's not that far away. And I'm not talking about hitting the casinos there.

That would definitely have to be a day visit while the wife was in the conference...

It's worth visiting CC/Silver Legacy. Reno Hilton is a dump. Cal-Neva is a dump. Peppermill and Atlantis are very nice. Actually the Nugget isn't bad at all, it's just cheaper because it's so far away from town.

Poker Room at CC isn't bad. Have a daily hold 'em/stud tournament. $17 entry. Overall if you're into poker, the poker more or less sucks in Reno.

Don't forget to check out the National Bowling Stadium. My shrine on this earth. And the Steakhouse at CC is really good, can't remember the name, though.
