Question Half-life 2 and Steam?

I haven't paid any attention to the talk of Steam .What is it? Does it mean we can download and buy Half Life 2?

Yeah, purchase and download, no actual physical media. But i believe it can create cd/dvd images for you after downloading.

I bought and downloaded it via Steam, and I now get messages that it's pre-loaded on my computer. I think, and correct me if I'm wrong, that on the release day, they'll authorize Steam to allow me to play. Which of course I don't have time for now because I'm so busy with Halo 2, FM 2005, and TPB 2005. Life's a b*tch.

Yep, as soon as it is released (midnight of the 16th I think), the Steam download will allow you to play. There is talk that this will become increasing popular in the future, and that it might hurt publishing companies (which receive less profits from the electronics sales.)

Heh, read a funny thing on this today, apparently for even the SP portion of the game you have to have it authorized on the 'net before you can play.

So there was a place that broke release date and some folks picked up copies early, only to find out they can't play them! Ouch.

Random question regarding Steam - I need to format my PC to do a fresh install. Do I need to do anything to deactivate the games that I have downloaded, or will they be available for download when I reinstall Steam and login into my account on the fresh XP install?
