CB Matchups

Just curious to see if I'm understanding something right. I have one stud CB and a decent #2 corner.

If I choose to orient CB by WR covered, then my stud CB should follow the other team's #1 WR around the entire game, correct?

Purely conjecture, but Jim had mentioned somewhere that the "Any wide receiver" logic for formations was screwed up, which accounts for some of the linemen and other people catching passes. It would not surprise me if this causes the top CB to cover someone other than the best WR on the other team on occassion.

I haven't noticed much of a problem with the logic, but most of the time my CBs do not have a large enough disparity in ability to tell the difference.

I think it's a little different than that. I believe your initial proposition is correct in that the top CB will cover the top WR. The problem arises in how the game determines who is the top WR. It may not depend on ratings, but rather on receptions or targeted passes. But no one knows for sure.
