Ping: Washington State or Titans fans

What can you tell me about QB Jason Gesser? He's spent the last two years on the Titans roster. Previously, he led Washington State to a Rose Bowl appearance against Oklahoma.

The CFL team I support just traded a first round pick to aquire his rights. They expect to sign him and he is being hyped as quite a talent.

His prospect profile on nfl.com says it all.

He was solid for WSU the entire time he was there, one of the better QB's they have had. Then again, so was Ryan Leaf.

I'm confused.

A CFL team trade with Tennessee?

Or did a CFL team change it's name to Titans?

CFL teams have 'negotiation lists.' They are free to put anyone on that list and those 'rights' belong to that team. For another team to acquire those rights, a trade must be made. Gesser is no longer under contract and an UFA. The Calgary Stampeders were high on him and gave up a first round pick to the BC Lions to acquire his rights. They plan on signing him for camp which starts in about three weeks. He's slotted to be the backup now but there are long-term plans to eventually be the starter.

Jason Gesser was a better QB at St. Louis High School than Timmy Chang.

He's a classic example of a player with better intangibles than tangibles. A great leader, smart player, and a "winner" but probably doesn't have the physical tools to play in the NFL. I think he could flourish in the CFL, though.

Gesser didn't amount to much with the titans.

You mean relative to other fringe, clipboard-toting #3 QBs, or in general?

I remember him as a tough competitor.

It must be hard to make it as a QB in the NFL.

The Stampeders just signed him today. He'll likely be backup to former Bears QB Henry Burris.

kOruptr, I notice you are from Hawaii. Did you see Gesser play there in high school?

It's a different game up here. Burris is strongly suited to it, regardless of how he performed in the NFL.
