It may just be the picture as I have no idea who she is except from this thread but she kinda reminds me of John Lithgow in "The World According to Garp". At least her face does. I'd have to say I'd take a pass on this one.

With the long horse face yes I do. I even googled up a picture of Lithgow to make sure. I didn't find the pics from garp where he plays a transsexual but any Lithgow picture will do. She has a Lithgow face and that's scary.

Again, it could just be this picture but that's what I see.

Her last album set the bar for selling out. I've never been more digusted by an artist in my entire life. I'm getting angry again just thinking about it.

Liz - I hope you were happy flushing your fanbase down the toilet, in an attempt to become a teen icon while pushing 40. Fuck You.

You should spend time googling up her pictures if you did the same for Lithgow... Since you think it might be the picture...

I was at a wedding of a college friend a couple of years ago, and a gay friend of ours was there with his boyfriend, who I though looked a lot like Lithgow.

Interestingly, the friend himself always reminded me of Miss Hathaway....

(not that I ever told him that)

Do you mean Kevin Bacon or John Lithgow? John Lithgow was in Footloose, he played the father/preacher...so you could be saying that John Lithgow has a Lithgow face, which would make sense

cthomer: I share your dismay over what's become of Ms. Phair. I still remember the day I first heard Exile in Guyville...staggered me. I thought she'd change the ballgame. It's too bad that things went so wrong afterwards. The icing on the coffin was her singing backup for Sheryl "Squeaky" Crow on that soulless pop turd "Soak Up the Sun," followed up by this very flushable latest album. Sorry, Liz, but cth is right...your fanbase likes the real thing, not corporate whores.

That last sentence is one of the great myths of all time.

And I am a big fan of hers too. I think her first album was groundbreaking, brilliant in its writing and execution, easily the best album of the 90's, and will forever remain one of my favorites.

The myth is that it sold. In initial release, less than 400,000 copies. Huge for an indie label, but not earth shattering. It did not get certified gold (500,000) until 1998, five years after release, and a few months after Whip Smart went gold. Exile probably never would have gone gold if not for the radio airplay of Supernova.

As for the "loyal fanbase" I can see her not trusting in that, since the loyals did not buy whitechocolatespaceegg. She delivered another brilliant yet uncommercial album, and it sold less than 200,000 copies. So, half of the loyals had already left her.

One thing I am interested in is - she apparently submitted three albums to the record company in the five years between whitechocolatespaceegg and the new album, that they declined to release. I am hoping that

What I really do not understand is the bitterness. She owed and continues to owe you nothing, yet you are bitter she did not deliver it to you? Most of us would take more money to move to a job that was a less "pure" pursuit of our chosen profession yet we get upset when artists attempt to do the same thing.

Oh yeah, I would most definitely hit it. The repeated listenings of Exile have made me think of her as so dirty that I am now completely enthralled by the thought of boinking her, despite her 7/10 looks. Just listening to Flower pushes her to about a 13 for me, in fact, I'd want that song playing while I was hitting it.
