Post UNLV Athletic Director Hired!

Evan Scott
Wow, first day at UNLV. I am excited and a little scared. I have no background as an Athletic Director, and I want to make my mark on this program. I love the city of Las Vegas, and hope I don't wake up from this dream. I need to evaluate my needs for this next season. I lost my coaches in both football and basketball, and the basketball season is closing in.

Well, first things first, I have to read my morning paper and have a cup of joe. Let's see if they have anything in the The Las Vegas Sun about the newest Athletic Director of UNLV.

Well what do you know, there is. Looks like some nut named Frank Tripp wrote the article. Let's see what ol' Frank had to say about yours truely.

The Las Vegas Sun - February 19th, 2003
Sports Headline: Evan Scott Named Athletic Director at UNLV by Frank Tripp

UNLV today announces its success in landing Evan Scott as Athletic Director. Scott is expected to take over a UNLV Athletic Program that used to be known for its tough hard nosed program, but in the last few years slipped and fell drastically in rankings. Scott is coming over with a resume that never included a position of Athletic Director at any major university, but as a sports agent from a Los Angeles based firm, Contact Sports Management, Inc. Most question the university directors for hiring an inexperienced Athletic Director, including myself, while others feel he is the right choice for the position.

Scott said earlier this week in interviews, "I am happy to be given the opportunity to take control of a wonderful sports program here at UNLV. I have several interviews already lined up with potential coaches and the first program I plan to start working with is the basketball program. Later this year, I have several ideas lined up for the football team. I look forward to this opportunity, and I hope I can bring some excitment to the students, faculty and fans of the UNLV program this year and years to come."

Scott becomes the 33rd Athletic Director for the UNLV Rebels. His contract is a 5 year deal worth approximately $116,000/yr. with bonus incentives if either the football or basketball program reaches a bowl game or tournament play.

Evan Scott
Well, looks like I have a critic at The Sun. We'll see if we can't quiet those critics this year. I am very nervous though. This will be a challenge, but I have the up most confidence that I can do this.

The #1 coach on my hiring list has got to be Tey Jackson. His contract is up at Texas A&M down in Corpus Christi, Texas. I met Tey last year during a conference in Dallas when I was part of CSMI. Tey just came off as a well rounded coach who is respected by not only his players, but his staff. He demands perfection, and he knows how to get the most of of his kids. He has been working with a very weak lineup the last few years and I am sure he would love an opportunity to head to UNLV and upgrade his current position in college basketball. During his college coaching career, Tey has accumulated a 43 wins and 41 losses for a little over a .500 winning percentage. I think he would be a perfect fit personality wise not only with myself, but with the objectives I have for this program.

I should give Tey a call this afternoon and see if I can sell him on becoming the next UNLV head coach.

Later that afternoon:

Evan Scott
I am on my way to building this program. I just got off the phone with Tey Jackson, and he has shown considerable interest in joining our program. Obviously I have to come up with a contract offer, but I think he was jumping atthe opportunity. I believe I just need to lay a reasonable offer on the table and he will accept.

My evaluation of Tey Jackson is as follows:
Recruiting: 43
Scouting: 37
Offensive Coaching: 56
Defensive Coaching: 64

The Las Vegas Sun - February 22, 2003
Sports Headline: Jackson Named Head Coach of the UNLV Rebels

Tey Jackson, Beaumont, Texas native, and former Texas A&M of Corpus Christi was signed to a 4 year deal worth $493,000 in base plus incentives. Jackson's salary breakdown is as follows: Year #1 - $112,000 in base, Year #2 - $119,000, Year #3 - $127,000 and Year #4 - $135,000. Jackson will receive an additonal bonus of $25,000 for winning the conference, and another $5,000 for making the NCAA tournament, a Sweet 16 bonus of $25,000, and a Final Four Bonus of $75,000. If Jackson leads the UNLV Rebels to the promised land and wins the NCAA National Championship, he will receive a $100,000 bonus.

If Jackson wins his conference and wins a National Championship he will collect bonuses totaling $230,000. Jackson's contract could range from 4 years at $493,000 to 4 years at $1,413,920 if he wins 4 National Championships. The likelihood of Jackson accomplishing these incentives are slim to none with what he is being handed at UNLV as far as players. Look for incentives in years three and four, Jackson has a tough row to hoe.

Jackson is 43 years old, and has 3 years of major college basketball head coaching experience with Texas A&M Corpus Christi with a career record of 43 - 41 giving him a .510 winning percentage.

Evan Scott
I can't wait until Tey gets to town, so we can discuss the future of UNLV basketball.

Nice start! Great read!

I'm guessing this will start as a FBCB dynasty, and possibly expand into a TCY dynasty? Neat idea! Good luck! I'll be reading.

Well, it will not actually just turn into one. I think you were on the right track, maybe I am just reading wrong.

However, my goal is to play both together, and interchange both programs in one single thread.

Coaches report to the AD.

Thought it would be neat to explore multiple sports to keep posts interesting.

Thanks for getting rid of Charlie Spoonhour. The game passed him by about 20 years ago.

Hiring Stage and Schedule

Evan Scott
Well, it is the month for Tey to hire his new coaching staff. I have given him a budget of $488,719 for the year, including salaries. In order for Tey to be successful, I think it is imparative that he signs his staff to under $316,000.

He will need plenty of budget left to go after those top players.

On the phone later that week....

Tey Jackson
Hi Boss. I wanted to let you know that I have finally finished hiring my staff for this season. I will be sending the fax your way shortly so you can see our new coaches and their bios.

Evan Scott
Thanks Tey. I look forward to seeing that fax. Let's get the new staff together for drinks and dinner early next week.

15 minutes later.....

Evan Scott
Good here comes Tey's fax now.

*Sound of paper being torn off the fax roller*

Well, let's see what Tey has accomplished so far.

Dear Mr. Scott,

I have found some great talent I believe for our coaching staff. Your request for keeping coaching salaries under $316,000 was not a problem. We came in with a brisk $286,000.

Plus, I have taken the time to determine my remaining budget for the year with recruiting.

Tey. Great job on your new hires. I look forward to a good season from you and your coaching staff. How about Friday evening a little dinner over at the Mirage, say around 7pm?

I apologize that we are unable to accomodate you for your increased budget, but until we prove we can win, I have very little pull with the administration. The same went with the alumni when I sought after available cash for our upgraded facilities. We need to put on a good run this year in order for our administration and alumni to put much more stock in us.

Later that month.....

Email from Evan Scott
Tey, I am happy to announce our schedule for this upcoming year. You may be particularly interested in our second game of the season.

The Las Vegas Sun - June 23rd, 2003
Sports Headline: UNLV Schedule Released - New Coach Faces Former Team

The new schedule for UNLV basketball was released today. UNLV faces a very competitive schedule this year, and if they plan on competing from the outset, they better hope Tey Jackson is able to evaluate the talent he has available. UNLV has been on a slide the last couple years in the conference and has slid to a #4 ranking in the conference, and a #67 ranking in the Nation.

One interesting matchup in the schedule that has been announced is the second game of the season that brings Coach Tey Jackson's former team into Vegas for a heated (and probable lopsided) showdown. Coach Tey Jackson is sporting a much better team than the one he is facing, but rivalries are built this way.

The success of this season rests on the shoulders of Tey Jackson being able to get his troops out of the gates fast with a few wins so that they can build confidence heading into the conference games later in the year.

New Era Continues

WOW! Just started getting things situated for basketball and the football season is approaching me faster than I thought. It is already June 26th, and I haven't even hired my Head Coach for the football team.

I better get on the ball and go through the resumes sent in from coaches around the league.

Hours Later.....

Geesh, all these resumes and only 3 really stand out to me.

Buddy Jacobson from Duke University (43 - 53 career record)
JT Robertson from So. Illinois (33 - 27)
Max Edington former offensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals (No college record)

I will call these three in for interviews.

2 days later....

Well, after my interviews I decided on JT Robertson from So. Illinois. He seemed to fit with the ideas that I had for my program, and he is an experienced college coach with a winning record.

Later on that day on the phone....

Evan Scott
Hey JT. After my interview with you I was convinced you were the right man for the job. Welcome aboard! When do you think you can be here preparing our team for the upcoming season beginning this next month?

I really appreciate the opportunity Mr. Scott. I can be there Monday morning and begin my season and recruiting. I already have a good idea of guys I want to go after. I will see you monday morning bright and early.

The Las Vegas Sun - August 1st, 2003
Sports Headline: UNLV Finds Football Coach

Today UNLV added their final piece to the new regime as they added a head football coach. JT Robertson from So. Illinois was signed to a 3 year $398,000 contract.

Robertson's contract will pay him $128,000 his first year, $132,000 his second and $138,000 his third year. Robertson's bonuses include $25,000 to make a bowl game, $75,000 to win a bowl game, $50,000 if he wins his conference and $125,000 extra if he wins the National Championship. Robertson's contract with incentives could pay upward of $1.2 million if he reaches all his incentives.

JT Robertson has a career record of 33-27 at the University of Southern Illinois. Robertson takes control of a football program that has been marked with disappointment for many many years. Skeptics wonder if anyone can turn the football program around.

Well, I guess I have a lot more work here than I originally thought. A very disappointing game indeed. Here is our game stats. We will attempt to make a change this week and see if we can't turn around the outlook of the season after game 1.

Dang, we got our butts kicked by Toledo. We need to do something about this program, especially in the football department. Hopefully we will not have to start off our basketball season like this.

Oh well, no point in crying over spilt milk. Let's see what Mr. Frank Tripp of The Las Vegas Sun has to say about us the morning after our dismantling by Toledo at home.

The Las vegas Sun - August 30th, 2003
Sports Headline:
Toledo Rolls Over Rebels 31 - 7

New Regime same old story. Toledo runs all over UNLV and runs away with a 31 to 7 victory friday night. TJ Robertson found himself in a defensive battle through the first half as Toledo led 7 - 0 at halftime. Toledo scored again to open the second half to increase their led to 14. The Rebels managed a lengthy drive on the assuming kickoff that was capped off by a 37 yard run by Don Maguire.

That was all she wrote for UNLV as Toledo just pounded the Rebels in the 4th quarter by scoring 17 unanswered points to seal the game 31 - 7.

People were excited to make it to the opening game, but as usual, they left with their head hanging. It will be interesting to see what TJ has up his sleeve this year as he goes through the recruiting class. At the end of the year, they have 18 parting seniors and only 8 scholarships available to hand out. Looks like things are going to get tougher for Coach Robertson.

Evan Scott
As I expected, no glory in the paper for a paper thin Rebel football team. I hope Coach Robertson can help turn this thing around, or I may be out on my rear along with him. Toledo is a decent team. They are ranked #46 in the country this week. Hopefully we can play better in conference play.

Thanks. I appreciate everyone who is taking the time to read this. I was not sure if I should get so involved with a dynasty and reporting, because I wasn't sure anyone would care.

Blitz, by the way....your FBCB is hilarious. You had me several times just rolling. Great commentary!

Hope this dynasty idea pans out. I have not figured out how to copy and paste a schedule or roster in TCY. If anyone knows and could advice, I would appreciate it.

Plus, I am more interested in the Basketball game right now, and I have to mess with the football so much because of the time of year.

Wish all happy reading, and I will try to keep them coming as often as I can.

The Las Vegas Sun - September 7th, 2003
Sports Headline: Rebels Picked Apart by Hawks - Frank Tripp

The Jayhawks took it to the Rebels yesterday as they glide to their second win by handing the Rebels their second loss of the season by a score of 38 to 3. The Rebels were flat. They kicked off to a Jayhawk team that was ranked #47 compared to a Rebel team who was ranked #91 to start the game. The Rebels made a good defensive stand on the first drive by stopping the Jayhawks who had a 1st and goal and forcing them to kick a FG. However, on the assuming kickoff is when it all started to go downhill. Kansas kicked off to Perry Farley who fumbled the ball inside his own 5 and had trouble getting a handle on it. The Rebels began thier first drive of the game with their backs to their own goal line by starting on their own 1.

The Jayhawks turned on the thunder as they overtook a weak UNLV team by 35.

Next week looks even worse for a UNLV team set to square off on the road again against a #14 ranked Wisconsin team.

Evan Scott
Well, I didn't plan on this, maybe I should have considering the history of this football program. Okay, well lets look on the bright side of things, we still don't have any injured players. Not that one injury would hurt this team. I think our team would have more success with my son's pop warner team playing in place of our starters now.

I sure hope JT has a good year in recruiting, lord knows we are gonna need some talent to turn this program around. How we are going to attract recruits losing 38 to 3 is beyond me.

Let's check email and see if Coach JT has sent me the team report this week.

Email from Coach JT Robertson...
Well that was an ugly game. It doesn't look much better next week against #14 Wisconsin. I will do my best to pump our team up to at least give a good showing against Wisconsin. A good showing could really help us in the recruiting process this week if we can compete with a #14 ranked team.

We are in a building stage, so don't give up on me Mr. Scott. Hang in there, nothing gets turned around in one year, especially with me not being able to bring in my players and recruits to head off this year.

Here is the recap of our past game.

Email from Evan Scott to Coach Robertson....
I understand the situation we have, and I am prepared to have some growing pains. I would like to think we can be .500 in our conference this year, but that doesn't seem likely with the way we are playing. Plus, we are ranked at #102 in the country with 9 of our 12 opponents ranked in the top 50, and only one opponent currently ranked worse than us, Wyoming at #110.

Get those boys to play hard, keep their grades respectable and try to keep them as close as possible for incentive with future recruits.

Good luck this next week Coach Robertson, you will need it!

The Las Vegas Sun - September 14th, 2003
Sports Headline - UNLV Blasted by #14 Wisconsin - Frank Tripp

If anyone had any hope that UNLV had a chance of turning their program around this year, well, you are in for a rude awakening. UNLV suffered their worst loss in team history yesterday as they went on to lose by the score of 77 to 3 to #14 ranked Wisconsin.

77 to 3? Yes, 77 to 3. UNLV looked like a pee wee football team playing the Superbowl Champs. They couldn't run, they couldn't pass, they could tackle and they sure couldn't win. The only thing that UNLV could do successful was lineup to receive the kickoff.

Is the Athletic Director really the answer at UNLV? Maybe I am just a little hasty to point blame after a huge defeat. It is not the Athletic Directors fault his team can't play football, but it is his hiring that controls the football team. He better hope UNLV can salvage some of this season to gain some recruits, and he better hope that the basketball program is better than its football team.

Evan Scott
Well, at least Tripp was nice in his article. He did compliment us on our ability to line up to receive the kickoff. What a horrid game. Do we even deserve the classification of being in Division 1 college football?

Good grief, well....let's see if Coach Robertson has sent me a game report.

Email from Coach Robertson....
I don't know what to say Evan, we laid an egg yesterday. I have a group of guys that are just not quality football players, playing in a tough schedule. I will turn this program around, I just need a couple years of recruiting and teaching them how to play as a team and learning the fundamentals, like tying their shoes, and then progress to handoffs.

Anyways, here is our game summary.

Ouch. That's gotta hurt.

Although, judging from the line score, it looks like you were just starting your comeback when time ran out. Just a bit more time, and who knows what would have happened?

Regarding the printing of schedules and rosters, you want to print them to file, open them in Word (or any word processor), change the font to courier, then set them within code brackets like you're doing with the game box scores. If any of that doesn't make sense, let me know what part and I can explain more. I think I usually printed the schedules off the "team summary" screen.

Good luck righting this football program. It's got to be uphill from here!

Question Help Posting TCY Roster/Stats

It couldn't possibly be down! How could it get worse than 77 to 3 huh? LOL

Is that for the football rosters or the basketball?

I try to print on the football game, anything, and it wants to only PRINT to paper via the printer, not send to a file. If that is possible, where do I do that at?

I know in the basketball it is not much of a problem. However, the football game doesn't seem to present an option. I am able to do the box score, because it puts it in a little (type) document, but the rosters and overall statistics do not, just in the game mode. Even my box scores are not perfectly aligned when i put into a dynasty post, I have to do a View Reply and edit repeatedly just to get what I get. It may take me 15 to 20 minutes just to make a post with a small story line and a box score.

I would appreciate as much info as possible.

Thank you very much about the help thread. It worked perfectly. Not that you had a doubt that it would, just whether or not I was smart enough to perform a step by step task! LOL

You would be surprised how many people can't follow instructions though, I get that daily with my customers.

Appreciate it, and this should be a lot easier to add statistics.

Dinner with Coach Robertson and Jackson at Kokomo's in the Mirage Casino and Hotel

Evan Scott
Well guys, things are starting off a little rocky for our program so far.

Coach Robertson
Yeah tell me about it. Quite a change of pace from So. Illinois. We came in the year ranked in the mid 60's and we are already rated well over 100. That game Saturday about gave me a aneurysm, 77 to 3!

Coach Jackson
Yeah I saw the game on television. I will have to be honest and say I turned it off after the first half.

Coach Robertson
I wish the hell I could have turned it off after the first half.

Evan Scott
Well, that game is over with. We have to figure out what we are going to do at home against a #100 ranked Hawaii. This is currently our easiest game on our schedule, even though they are ranked 6 positions higher than us. Wyoming during the week jumped from #108 to #90. We need to put something together that remotely reminds me of a division 1 football game.

Recruiting has become a problem in both sports with that loss. We have yet to recruit anyone or show any interest in the football program, and with that demolition against Wisconsin, Coach Jackson here already lost his top recruit.

Coach Jackson
Yeah good looking kid out of Los Angeles, PG named Garafalo signed with USC yesterday. Although I don't really think I had pursuaded him to come to our school, but I had him on hold to hear more. Oh well, good looking young PG.

Evan Scott
That is beside the point, I do not like coincidences. I realize you are working with a very raw group of players Coach Robertson, but we have to make some kind of move here soon. We cannot go winless in our first year in the program. I mean hell, the last staff was able to win 3 games. I think our goal needs to honestly be 3 games. This may be our easiest game on our schedule, and we need to build some confidence in our boys.

Coach Robertson
I know Evan. Trust me, I don't want to lose anymore than you. Hawaii still has a talented group of young players to build from, and we are really lacking. I would like a QB that could at least throw 50% of his passes for completions, or a running back that runs forward for positive yards instead of trying to bounce outside and get nailed for a loss half the time.

No matter how much I get on these guys, no matter what I say, they just act as if they are not interested in winning. Not a one of them want to sit on the bench, but no one has the drive to win or excel.

Evan Scott
So what do you plan on doing to change that?

Coach Robertson
Well, I have been working on some exercises that may help this team bond a little more and take some more pride in themselves. We will see how they work out by Saturday's game.

Evan Scott
Sounds good Coach Robertson, we will see how things work out by Saturday. Good luck.

Coach Jackson, anything else to report before we wrap up our meeting/dinner?

Coach Jackson
Not much other than we have a couple quality gaurds this year, and I made a visit to Wheat Ridge, CO and visited with a young man named James Ahner. He is a 7'2" center. He has had a heck of a high school career so far averaging 16 points a game with 7 rebounds and around a 56% shooting from the field. Would love to sign this kid, we could use some more meat up front this next year with 2 centers prepared to graduate. My scout evaluates him at a level 2 of 5, but I think he has a lot of potential.

Evan Scott
Alright, sounds good gentleman. I look forward to our fufure contact, and good luck this week recruiting for both of you, and good luck against Hawaii Coach Robertson.

Geesh, another great game by the mighty UNLV Rebels. I wonder if they are Rebels in the fact they are refusing to play football. I am about done with the football program this year. I will let JT run the show, get his butt whooped, and receive his game reports. Hell, Frank Tripp didn't even bother to write about the game this week.

Wow, we got stomped by a 100th ranked team. You would have thought we could have hung in the game.

The Las Vegas Sun - October 5th, 2003
Sports Headline: UNLV Upsets Arch Rival Nevada

Just when you think UNLV is dead and gone, they jump up and bite you like a rattlesnake in hot desert sand. It took UNLV three overtimes to put away Nevada, but they did it in a fashion that will not be soon forgotten.

UNLV fought back the whole game and tied the score at 10 with a FG and only 30 seconds left on the clock. UNLV started their final drive on their own 15 yard line with less than 3 minutes to play and got within FG range, as Jeremy Henry kicked the game evening shot from 46 yards.

In the first overtime, both teams scored TD's sending the score to 17. In OT two, both teams failed to convert as Nevada missed a FG wide right, and UNLV managed to turn the ball over trying to get back into fieldgoal range after a costly holding call and sack.

In OT three, Nevada turned the ball over and UNLV managed to inch their way into another game winning FG attempt. Henry kicked it up and through to win the game for UNLV in their third OT.

UNLV has taken a beating early this year, but manage to win their first game, and the knock off their arch rival for the first time in 5 years. If UNLV doesn't manage to win another game the rest of the year, students will be praising the team for edging out Nevada. My hats off to Coach JT Robertson, because I didn't think that the UNLV Rebels had a chance in this game.

Evan Scott
WOW! I cannot believe it. We won our first game by knocking off Nevada for the first time in 5 years. I have to give it to Coach Robertson, he picked a good time to get in the win column.

Let's see that game report from Coach Robertson.

Email from JT Robertson...
Hi Evan. Bet you didn't think we could go out and play that kind of ball against a good Nevada team? Actually neither do I! It must have been the rivalry that sparked a flame under our boys butts. I am very proud of our team, and the job we did.

However, we did lose several guys this week for the season, and a couple guys with nagging injuries.

We cannot expect to play as well with two of our top three runningbacks sidelined for the year. That leaves us Hutchinson to carry the bulk of our load in the only effect part of our game. We may be hurting a bit, and it could slow us down, but we will fight to the end.

Great job Coach Robertson. I am very proud of our team and of you for inspiring them to play all out against a tough Nevada team. Looks like we may have played too hard after reviewing your list of injuries and players out for the year.

I just wanted to say congrats and wish you luck on recruiting this week. There is no pressure the rest of the year, we will do the best we can. Beating Nevada saved the season. Great job Coach!

Hey Evan. Tough game yesterday. We really fell apart in the fourth quarter. We went up 10 - 0 to start the game and then fell behind 21 - 10. We were able to bring the score back within reason at 21 - 16 because we missed the two point conversion, and then we just fell apart.

Our boys are lacking stamina, and with the rash of injuries, that didn't help much either. We stood tough, but gave them the game in the 4th quarter. We just didn't show up.

Here is the game report for this week. We are going to go with a little different format for now on. I think this will help you to understand how the game went, rather than just giving you stats.

PS...We seriously need a decent QB in the offseason.
PS2...We got our first commitment this week.

Great job on our first recruit. He is a real gem you were able to lure to UNLV. The #2 Cornerback in the country nabbed by us. That is just great news.

About the game. It was a neck and neck game until that 4th quarter when we ran out of steam and confidence. I think the boys could use a bit of running this week to prepare for next week. Great game minus the 4th quarter.

Hey Evan. Well, the game was within reason against a tough Utah team. Utah was favored by 26 points, and by God if they didn't win by 26 points. I thought for sure we were gonna be able to beat the spread, but we gave up that last qucik drive to let them go back up by 26. Our offense was terrible. Mainly our QB. We cannot do anything from that position.

Rebels Shock NCAA in Amazing Win Over #21 BYU

What is up with UNLV this year? They do not have a good record, yet somehow they manage to knock off state rival Nevada for their first win, and now they beat #21 ranked BYU who leads the conference. BYU coming into this game was ranked #21 in the country, and #1 in the conference with a 7 - 1 record and a 5 - 0 conference record. BYU was favored by 21 points in this game and managed to lose this game to a weaker UNLV team, who outlasted BYU by a score of 21 to 20.

Wow! The Rebels shocked the NCAA world today with an astounding win over BYU. I was at the game reporting, and I still cannot belive what I saw. This did not look like the same football team from the previous games this year.

The defense played a bend but don't break D, while the offense was able to string together lengthy drives to help seal a win against a strong BYU team.

Congrats to Coach Robertson on his most important win at UNLV since coming over from So. Illinois. Rebels 21, BYU 20.

Email from TJ Robertson...
Good morning Evan. I am having a hard time holding back my excitement as I type this email. I cannot believe the way our boys played yesterday. They really stuck together and the D came up huge. I am glad we were able to get you this win. Hopefully this will help with the enthusiasm of our faculty and alumni.

However, even though we had a major upset against the #21 ranked team in the land, we had several recruits visit and turn us down. Not one committed to our school as they decided to go elsewhere. Total visitors this week was 8, and 8 rejections. I do not quite understand that, but we will keep plugging away on our recruits.

Holy Cow! I cannot believe it. You have done the impossible. We have not beat BYU in 6 years, and they were ranked higher than they have been in 10 years. You pulled off one of the greatest upsets in college football this week. Our team is weak, but they have a lot of heart and determination. They owe that to you Coach Robertson. You have truely been an inspiration to this program so far. Yes, our record is terrible, but we are in 6th place out of 8 and still within a possible bowl bid.

Keep plugging away on those recruits, we are losing a ton of players this next year. However, I do want to say, I am very glad I decided on you as our head coach. I don;t think anyone else could have got more out of our boys this year. Great job coach! Keep playing like this and you may be headed for a bonus in a bowl game.

UNLV Wins Two In A Row

UNLV won their second straight game yesterday as they knocked off New Mexico to go 3 - 6 and send their conference record to 2 - 2. New Mexico started off hot, but UNLV calmed the heat and for the second straight week came from behind to win big 38 to 21.

UNLV's defense is starting to take over games and help the offense. UNLV's running attack has been a pleasant surprise this year, but the passing game has been weak completing only 44 percent of their passes this year, which ranks them near the bottom of the country in that category.

Karl Reilly earned Player of the Game by racking up 147 yards on 22 carries with 3 touchdowns. The defense forced 5 fumbles and recoved 2 of them and collected an interception.

UNLV on a roll? Who would have thought it possible?

Email from Coach Robertson
We are on a small roll and who would have thought we could beat anyone by 17 points. I am very impressed by Reilly and our defense this past game. Hutchinson had a good game himself by rushing for 73 yards and a TD on 12 carries. I have to admit, we are playing better than expected. We have another big game coming up aagainst San Deigo State who are ranked #55.

This game will help us determine where we are at. Reilly has rushed for over 140 yards two weeks in a row, but we will be missing his services for the next two weeks as he has a small fracture in his foot. We will be relying on Hutchinson to carry the load this next week.

Great news on our QB situation. I can't believe we landed the #1 QB in the country. We have so far landed the #1 QB and the #2 CB in the country in the recruiting phase this year. AWESOME!

Email from Evan Scott....
I am so impressed that I have a smile from ear to ear. You wouldn't believe it unless you saw it. You have done an absolutely awesome job so far this year. I cannot express how important you have become to this program. You are one of the best damn recruiters I have ever seen. How do you do it?

I want to buy you dinner this week if you have chance. I cordially invite your beautiful wife as well. You have deserved the praise you are getting right now, from me, your critics and the media.

I may be a little tied up this week and next because Coach Tey Jackson is beginning his training camp and the season starts in the middle of this month on the 17th. I want to lend him a little support as he begins his first season here. Great game, EXCELLENT job on recruiting, and I will talk to you later this week if you are available for dinner.

Sports Headline:
UNLV Takes Third Straight Against San Deigo State

UNLV wins their third straight game as they knocked off the #55 team in the country, San Deigo State, by a overwhelming score of 34 to 7. UNLV is hitting their stride as they improve their conference record to 3 - 2 and continue to push for a bowl bid. They now sit at a not so great, but respectable 4 - 6 on the year with two games left.

They play at home in two weeks against a tough Colorado State team who is ranked #18 in the country. Then they travel for the last game of the year to take on #111 Wyoming. They need to win both games in order to continue their bid for a bowl game.

UNLV has played great as of late, winning three in a row, and knocking off #21 BYU, but the last time they played a top 20 team, they got slaughtered 77 to 3. This team has had a case of Jeckyl and Hyde this year, and we will wait to see what team shows up in two weeks to play Colorado State.

Email from Coach Robertson
Evan,

We have hit full stride I think and we have a bye week before we play Colorado State at home. Hopefully we will be able to prepare for the next couple weeks against a tough opponent and conference rival. We really took it to San Deigo State, and I am very impressed with Reilly. He insisted on playing with a fractured foot, and he carried the ball for 94 yards on 18 carries. Hutchinson had 89 yards on 24 carries.

Our defense is getting nasty. I wish we were able to hold a few of these guys for next year, but alas they will be graduating. One positive, we will be retaining our number 1 player on defense, Billy Joe Harding.

Other news, we signed another player this week.

Great job again. We have really been exceeding expectations after the way we started. Good luck against Colorado State, that game will be a hard one. You have had the kids playing great ball, we will see if they can continue that trend in two weeks.

We just got manhandled. I have only myself to blame. I didn't prepare for this team properly. I think I may have been looking past Arizona State to later this week against my former team.

We will make amends for this game. We are a better team than we displayed. It didn't help with our top scorer fouling out with 12 minutes left in the game.

Yeah bribing the sucker does help, but it could kill me next year if I am caught, especially with my Syndicate Coordinator is rated Terrible! May be no bowls for a couple years.

We will see, but I have the best QB in the country and that may help us get better and better and make better recruits come to the school because our program is kicking it.

I had to do something, our QB situation is miserable!! Just miserable!

Maybe I might red shirt my good players for a year so I can get past one year without a bowl without having to use my good players.

IE: #1 QB and #2 CB.
