Addt'l reading on The Passion
My biggest client, CTI, just released the following press release. New website where you can "read all about it." (I added the bold).
Carol Stream, IL - March 2, 2004 - Mel Gibson's record-breaking movie, The Passion of The Christ, has helped launch the new movies resource from Christianity Today magazine, ChristianityTodayMovies.com, with more than 300,000 page views in its first 10 days. "After about six months of planning, it's a thrill to finally deliver Christianity Today Movies to the general public," said Mark Moring, the site's managing editor. "Our company, Christianity Today International, aims to 'engage, encourage, and equip the church worldwide,' and part of that equipping process includes helping believers know how to interact with pop culture - including movies. Christianity Today Movies hopes to help its readers be more discerning when it comes to all things Hollywood, and I think we deliver on that note." The new website offers more than 20 original articles and interviews related to The Passion. In addition to these movie-related features from CT magazine (including print and web-exclusive stories), the movie site is also pointing to literally hundreds of articles related to The Passion from outside sources in CT's Film Forum and Weblog weekly sections. "The early feedback on the website has been phenomenal. In its first 10 days online, we've received in excess of 500 e-mails," continued Moring. "Most of those have been reactions to The Passion of The Christ, and we're sure that kind of volume will eventually slow down. But it's a clear indicator that people are not only checking us out, but wanting to interact - not just with us, but with the culture at large. We couldn't be happier with the way things have started." The site's unofficial motto is "biblical perspectives on contemporary cinema." CT plans to accomplish that primarily through film reviews, but also through commentary, interviews and the occasional news item. CT has been a trusted source for evangelicals for almost 50 years, and they will bring that same trust to this movies site. "Our staff-written reviews will include two perks," said Moring. "The first is 'Talk About It,' a handful of discussion starters for after the film - whether that's at the dinner table with the family, at Starbucks with a friend, or in your small-group Bible study. The second is 'Family Corner,' a paragraph just for parents as they consider whether or not to take their kids to the film. We want to help believers be discerning. They need to know what to make of this whole Hollywood thing." The site didn't launch with The Passion alone. The site initially went online with reviews of new films, Against the Ropes and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. The site also featured reviews of recent films, Miracle and Master and Commander. Reviews of recent DVD releases included The Fighting Temptations, Secondhand Lions, plus an interview with actor Haley Joel Osment. Daily updates of the site have since added more features, reviews, and interviews. The latest reviews include the thriller, Twisted, and Golden Globe Winner, Osama.
