The Weedeaters
1. (14) Peyton Manning QB
2. (19) Willie Parker RB
3. (46) Antonio Gates TE
4. (51) Dwayne Bowe WR
5. (78) Kevin Smith RB
6. (83) Anthony Gonzalez WR
7. (110) Justin Fargas RB
8. (115) Vincent Jackson WR
9. (142) Devin Hester WR
10. (147) Chris Baker TE
11. (174) Chad Jackson WR
12. (179) Correll Buckhalter RB
13. (206) Oakland DEF
14. (211) Trent Edwards QB
15. (238) Sebastian Janikowski K

I feel I'm weak at DEF/K but in my experience they don't get you consistently a lot of points. My draft was all about potential as I think Bowe and Gonzalez are going to do very well here. I think I have some good backups with Jackson when Moss gets hurt and Buckhalter when Westbrook gets hurt.

Not to be hateful but I think the team has some real holes. You don't have a single established WR on your team. Yes, I expect Gonzalez to be good but Bowe still has crap throwing to him and Gates sounds like he's banged up pretty good. As good as Hester has been, return TDs are just not a consistent measure of points.

You have RB who is coming off a broken ankle and another one who is a rookie. I'd give it a C- at best.

I noticed receptions are worth 1 point in your league and Willie Parker doesn't catch many balls. You should have gotten a better pass-catching RB (ones that catch 40 or more balls) or a top tier wide receiver with that pick.

I do like the Dwayne Bowe pick in the 4th round. Kevin Smith in the 5th round is also a pretty solid pick considering the he's nearly a lock to be the starting RB in Detroit.

I would say that the place you probably need to improve is running back, even if Kevin Smith starts in Detroit. Parker is not going to be getting a lot of carries inside the 20 as the Steelers are loving Mendenhall. He, as Racer pointed out, doesn't catch many balls as well so he's almost a liability in PRP league. Honestly, I would probably look to add Mendenhall possibly to take advantage of his possible goal line carries plus, you talk about being covered for injuries, Parker is one I wouldn't be surprised to see get hurt again. For being "fast Willie Parker", he doesn't break many for finding the endzone. Sorry, part of that is Steeler fan rant and part of that is FF strategy.

I do believe that Hester is a decent pick when you got him. Even if he doesn't catch a lot of balls, he'll still find the endzone several times over the course of the year, which should be a nice bonus. PLUS, it's not like you're counting on him to be a huge scorer as you have Bowe (solid value where you got him), Gonzalez, and Jackson ahead of him. I would be concerned about not having a big scoring receiver but Bowe might be primed to do that just that.

I would've been curious to see what three or four players went right after Parker in your draft. Overall, I would probably give you a C/C- but, as you know with the new NFL and parity, anything can happen.

I have some real holes, but it is a 16 team league. I think my main holes are at WR, but hopefully I have enough options with upside that it will be okay. I'm not real excited about my draft, but like I'm viewing the Raiders season this year, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Round 2
1. Ryan Grant El Paso Lonestars
2. Laurence Maroney Wednesday Spank
3. Willie Parker Weedeaters
4. Maurice Jones-Drew Oklahoma Outlaws
5. Braylon Edwards Cowboyz
6. Andre Johnson Vikings of El Paso
7. Brandon Jacobs BlackJack

Maroney getting picked right before me screwed things up since I was targeting him. I really debated picking Edwards since he got me some really good points last year. Larry Fitzgerald was the other one that I thought about, but for the most part there were a lot of good WRs left on the board at the point I picked Parker and RBs were going out fast.

I wouldn't have gone with Manning in the 1st in this format, especially with the recent injury concerns.

Great QB and TE if injuries aren't an issue, decent RBs, and weak WRs. It should be ok for a 16 team league. Who went 15th and 16th in the 1st round?

I just drafted and here's my team. I picked 9/12. How does it look?

QB P. Manning
RB Gore
RB Thomas Jones
WR Boldin
WR Calvin Johnson
TE Dallas Clark
K Josh Brown
DEF Jacksonville

On the bench I have Driver, Mendenhall, Kevin Smith, Crayton, Kitna, and Chris Baker.

Wait...you let Bush go in exchange for Parker? or even jones-drew???

Breez was available and you took Manning with a big question-mark at his kneecaps?

You just got dropped from a C to a D-

Jas-lov: I actually like that squad, depending on how the draft went down anyway (see my reaction to RA's situation. if you didn't make a glaring mistakes there then I'd give your team a B+, solid, strong in places with no glaring weak spots.

Willie Parker will not end the year as the Steelers starting running back. His novelty act has got to be wearing thin on the staff by now. Plus the steelers have one on of the worst lines in the league right now.

For once I agree with my Steeler-suckling comrade. Parker was one of those flashes that looks good on paper but won;t stand the test of time. mendenhall is going to be a rock for them though, damnit.

You might try to trade for Reggie Bush in case that owner doesn't know what he stumbled upon. In real life he probably isn't a very good running back. However, in fantasy leagues where receptions are worth 1 point each, he is easily one of the top 10 fantasy running backs.

Where did Chris Perry go? He's a wildcard because he could get injured again, but if he's healthy it looks like he'll be the starting running back and in his only healthy season he caught 51 passes as little more than a third down back. If you can get him cheap he might pay off big.

Enjoy the frustration of owning Portis. I've done it twice and you know you're greedy but when you watch it happen, you just can't help thinking he's even better than he shows.

Honestly, RA, your team is going to have trouble competing for the playoffs, let alone a title.

Manning is solid, but Parker doesn't score TD's or catch passes, and Mendenhall is going to be a force. He's the future at RB in the Steel City and will see his share of carries this season.

Gates has been beat up, and is getting very close to being an injury risk.

I love Kevin Smith but the Lions OL is atrocious, and it'll be a long time until he becomes a solid contributor.

Your WR's are unproven guys with high upside .. a fantasy nightmare. Bowe has no QB to throw to him and is a focal point to defenses now, and Gonzalez is still just a fourth option.

I'd go on but I think you better hit the waiver wire hard at WR and maybe look at some other options at RB.

Fixed, based on last night.

(If you believe you can predict a season based on one or two series of a pre-season game.)

(Which I emphatically do.)

I think he's had fumblitis all pre-season though, and wouldn't be surprised if he's slowly brought in instead of given carries at the start. His stock has fallen a bit with me.

12 team ESPN Auction League. Obviously, my opponents are about as smart as play-doh. Grant was the first player I selected and the most expensive at $31 ($200 budget, some idiot spent 82 on LT). He was the 3rd player nominated. Another 41 players went by until I picked again, at which point this quickly became silly.

QB: Schaub, Delhomme
RB: Grant, McGahee, Stewart, Chris Johnson, Watson
WR: Colston, TJ, Andre Johnson, Roy Williams, Randle-El, Curry

In my 12-team $200 budget auction league, LT went for $105. He went for $97 last year. $82 almost seems low.

10-team draft, snake style (is there really any other way?), I was in the 8th position. It is a keeper league (my keepers are noted) with keepers taking up the 1st and 2nd round picks. I also had an additional 4th round pick (noted) and did not have a 16th rounder. I don't have the list right in front of me, so I will try and remember who I all got.

QB: B. Rothelisburger, J. Campbell
RB: J. Addai (keeper), M. Lynch (keeper), S. Young, J. Fargas, K. Smith, F. Jones
WR: R. Wayne, B. Marshall, S. Holmes (my additional 4th rounder), R. White, C. Chambers
TE: T. Scheffler
DEF: Colts
K: R. Bironas

Quite happy with how things shaped up. The keeper aspect really changes how you draft. I kept my top two back, so I went WR with my first three picks (Wayne, Marshall, Holmes) and I think I have a pretty well-rounded team. I got pretty much everyone I was targeting, or at least in the same tier.

Man, just had my keeper league draft. I won last year and kept Brady, Moss, Grant, Larry Johnson, had to say goodbye to Selvin Young, Witten, Andre Johnson, and more.

QB: Brady
RB: Grant
RB: L. Johnson
WR: R. Moss
WR: Burleson
WR: Gonzalez
TE: Witten
DEF: Eagles
K: Dawson

Bench: Mike Hart, Ahman Green, Reggie Brown, James Jones, Robert Meachem, Matt Ryan.

Not thrilled with the WRs, but I also had traded my 1st pick (#14) for Grant last season.

6 TDs for everything, .5 points a reception. Everything else is fairly standard I think... this is a 12-team silent auction league:

QB: Jay Cutler
RB: Clinton Portis
RB: Maurice Jones-Drew
WR/TE: Santonio Holmes
WR/TE: Jerricho Cotchery
DEF/ST: Steelers
K: Stephan Gostkowski

8 team league
Start QB, RB, RB, Flex, WR, WR, TE, DEF, K

Pretty standard rules, no PPR. 7 man bench

Drafting 4th overall

Addai
Gore
Bush
Roethlisberger
Boldon
Greg Jennings
Calvin Johnson
Shockey
Lendale White
Dallas DEF
Hines Ward
Anthony Gonzolez
Donovan Mcnabb(13th round)
Rob Bironas
Rashard Mendenhall
Todd Heap

I don't really like my draft all that much, too many questionmarks. Every squad is stacked as well. If Addai plays well, maybe I'll have a chance though.

First three picks were LT, Westbrook, AP.

I had to debate Jackson vs Addai, I hope I didn't make the wrong call there. We'll see if Gore can bounce back, or if Bush decides to stop playing like a little girl.

For the heck of it, I thought I'd go ahead and share all the rosters in my league.

My league went to keeper this year after being non-keeper for five years or so. Anyways, here are the league settings:

1 point/50 yards passing, 1 point/20 yards rushing, 1 point/20 yards receiving, .5 points per reception, 6 points for all touchdowns (including passing), -2 points for lost fumbles and interceptions. Everything else I think is fairly standard. There is fractional scoring meaning 30 yards rushing equals 1.5 points.

We start the following positions: 1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 DEF, & 1 K

There are 14 teams in this league. Keeper rules are as follows:
-No limits on any position (so you can keep 2 or even 3 running backs).
-You can keep 2 or 3 players each year. Keeper rounds are 1-3.

Here's my team again:
QB: Jay Cutler (7.03) & Eli Manning (8.12)

WR1: Larry Fitzgerald (K)
WR2: Torry Holt (1)
TE: Todd Heap (3)

K: Nick Folk (6)

BACKUPS
QB B. Croyle (11)
RB Mendenhall (5)
RB Andre Hall (8)
WR Anthony Gonzalez (4)
WR Devin Hester (7)
WR Robert Meachem (10)

I'm a little weak at TE, and I probably reached for Folk, but I feel short of an injury to Brees, I'm set. Of course, that means I'll probably go 5-7 or something.

Does that mean you got Folk in the 6th round? I seriously hope not...

Not really, he has a lot of upside picks at RB with Forte and Johnson, and the way things are shaping up in Cincy, Perry should see quite a bit of action too.

Ah I must have missed that.

Yeah, then in that case, I see your point. I don't see why everyone is so high on Bush this year.

I would not draft him in a non PPR league. As long as he continues to get as many catches as he has in the past and can stay healthy (same with every running back), he should continue to be a very good running back in PPR leagues even if continues to be disappointing as a real life running back.
