There are twelve scholarship players on this year's roster. Two are seniors: big man
Forrest Curl and point guard
Kai Smith. That gives us three scholarships to offer this year.
Our two-deep and three-deep charts don't reveal any glaring problems with depth, and we don't have a freshman who looks like he'll be an instant star, like
Dan O'Halloran, Asher Wise, or
Avery Sullivan were when they arrived on campus. So we probably won't have to worry about whether or not an absolute boss of a freshman would have to play understudy to an alpha Cat for two years. We're basically free to recruit the best players we can land, regardless of position.
Pennsylvania has produced a bumper crop of basketball recruits this season. Four of the top 15 players in the nation are doing their things in the Keystone State, and two of them list Villanova as their dream destination.
John Zabriskie, the best of the bunch, is playing in Pitt's backyard, so the Panthers definitely have the inside track with him. John expresses less interest in us than any of the other four.
This year, I'm not going to offer a scholarship to a player whom we haven't evaluated. There are several players on our call list whose stats look good, but none of them are among the top three or four recruits in the nation. Here's the call list, as it stands right now.
