Several of Coach Sims' long-time coaching peers have moved into retirement this spring.

Joseph Owens, age 62; formerly at Tennessee, West Virginia, Louisville, and Wisconsin; career record 745-319
Larry Ramirez, age 71, formerly at Boston College and Miami; career record 727-319
Tracy Norton, age 61; formerly at New Orleans and Oklahoma; career record 642-313

Blaine Boyd surprises everyone by leaving Kansas to replace Coach Owens at Tennessee. Then, the Jayhawks surprise everyone even more by hiring unproven Matthew Coble, a Level 7 coach with 88 career wins. Coach Coble will probably have a very, very short leash.

Two of Graham's former assistants have also hung up their whistles. Donn McClinton, who was Graham's lead scout for years at Lafayette, has retired from the head coaching position at Morehead State. Dario Ferreira, who was the X-and-O man at Villanova for Graham's first four seasons at Villanova, steps down from his job at Cincinnati after nine seasons.

Coach McClinton posted a 71-116 record at MSU after taking the reins in 2036. Coach Ferreira was more successful, recording a 184-113 mark with the Bearcats in a run that began in 2033.

As usual, one of Coach Sims' assistants is receiving an opportunity to run his own program. This time, it's Dwight Worsham, returning to the head coaching ranks with a position at Detroit. Veteran William Conrad has been hired to take over the scouting department in Coach Worsham's place. Coach Conrad, 56, has a 243-340 record as a head coach, most recently at Wagner.

Welcome to the Main Line, Coach.

Only three of the coaches sprung from Graham Sims' coaching tree have experienced notable levels of success. Chris Kiger, whose three-year tenure on Graham's staff at Lafayette ended in 2027, is the most accomplished, by far. Coach Kiger, who is now at Missouri, has a 323-228 career record. David Bryant (Wisconsin, 175-165) has also earned a job with a power conference team. The best bet to achieve coaching stardom is Tom Caballero, who's landed the job at Syracuse at age 37. Coach Caballero has a 74-51 record.
