I'm not thesloppy, but i've seen a great number of Kitano films:
You shold check out
Brother (a fair amount of which is actually in English),
Hana-Bi (Fireworks), and for a more light-hearted movie (but quite good)
Kikujiro. I also liked
Kids Return a great deal, but it's a pretty big departure for his other stuff, and he doesn't have a role in the movie, unlike everything else where he's the lead.
