2002 POSITION REPORT: Shortstop
With the departure of Eduardo Fuensanta, we really have no one here who is starter material. The best option appears to be John Blakemore (3/5/6) a C fielding rated career backup. A decent-looking prospect is 4-star guy Robert Pauli (Good/Fair/Avg). Pauli has “B” range at SS. He had an OPS of .802 in 103 games in A-ball, then .842 in one month at AA. He’s currently rated 3/3/4.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Alan Dye has “B” range at SS. He could play there, and I’d start Lopez at 2B. My preferred option will be to sign a 2B or SS via free agency.
