2002 POSITION REPORT: Third Base
Anthony Schuster (6/6/6), age 32, has been the starter for six season. He had another solid year, hitting .283 with 20 HR’s and a .792 OPS, while winning the Gold Glove for his D. Our best-looking prospect is 3B/1B Cruz Muniz (Avg/Brl/Avg). Muniz is 23 years old. He had a .917 OPS in 2000 at single-A, and a .757 last year in AA. He’s currently rated 2/4/3, and will probably spend 2002 in AA.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Schuster is signed through 2003. I doubt Muniz will be ready for the bigs by 2004, but Muniz will be 34 then. I may have to do a tap dance to make this work out.
