1/5/04 - the final fixture, away at Leigh RMI, 8th in the Conference. If we win this game, we qualify for the playoffs. Leigh must win to have a chance, but that means both Halifax and Dag & Red must lose their games. All four of us are within three points of the fifth and final playoff spot.

El Khalej and Kanchelskis are back at their familiar positions, but Paulinho, Odejayi and Offiong are missing, and Futcher, Hatch and Killeen play instead. Leigh score in the 19th minute after Parry made a fantastic save but couldn't prevent them to score on the rebound. We are still down one-nil at half-time, and take a look at the other scores: Dag & Red is tied 1-1 with Morecambe, and Halifax is trailing Aldershot 0-1. Currently it's Leigh who's in the playoffs unless we can score. We go to attacking mentality but almost immediately concede a second goal. We manage a consolation goal in injury time by Meechan, but ultimately lose 1-2. Leigh does the unthinkable and leaps up three spots to snatch the final playoff spot.

Owers pulled a hamstring and will be out for four weeks. Southport will be relegated from the Conference and Aldershot is awarded an automatic promotion to the Third Division.

Barnet play Leigh and Morecambe face AFC Wimbledon in the playoff semifinals. AFC Wimbledon won the first leg 2-1 while the other game ended 1-1. Wimbledon and Leigh face each other in the playoff final after winning the second legs 2-0 and 3-0.

Newcastle wins the FA Cup on penalties over Aston Villa. Morecambe wins the FA Trophy after extra time with 3-2 over Halesowen. Liverpool wins the UEFA cup with a 3-1 win over Parma. AFC Wimbledon win the Conference Playoffs final over Leigh RMI on penalties.

We've been given £80K for our final position in the Conference. New teams in the Conference next season are Bury and Port Vale. Forest Green's defender Igors Stepanovs was awarded the English Conference Players Select award. AFC Wimbledon's manager Richie Barker is the English Conference Manager of the Year.

FC Bayern won the Champions League by beating Newcastle 1-0 in the final.
