I get the news that Third Division club Exeter is in a financial crisis which opts me to make an £8K offer for striker James Coppinger.

3/2/04 - away at Halifax, 7th in the Conference. Both Russell and Offiong get injured during the game and have to be substituted, and we just fall apart in the final 20 minutes, conceding two goals to lose 0-2.

Offiong will be out for three weeks, but both Russell and Allen, who also had suffered a knock, will be back at full strength in just a couple of days. 39-yr old Grayson, who played 49 minutes, is so winded he probably can't play in our next game...

A couple of days later, we get the welcome news that Kayode Odejayi has resumed full training. Exeter has accepted our offer for Coppinger, but we have competition as both Margate and Luton has put in bids for him.

7/2/04 - at home vs AFC Wimbledon, 11th in the Conference. Killeen starts at forward together with Kanchelskis as Odejayi isn't match fit yet. Owers moves over to the right wing while McLoughlin takes the vacant interior midfield spot. Kevin Rapley scores for Wimbledon in the 5th minute and we eventually lose 0-3, with McLoughlin having failed miserably to compete in the middle - he reached 49% fitness as early in the 61st minute! This suggest he needs another training schedule or he's no longer useful in any way.

Coppinger signs with Second Division team Luton, no surprise really. Instead we look at Reinier Moor, his teammate at Exeter, and at Wycombe's Craig Faulconbridge and Mark Philo.

Some days later we have to withdraw our offer for Faulconbridge as Wycombe demands £24K for him. However, they accept a price of £6K for Philo.

11/2/04 - at home vs Burton Albion, 16th in the Conference. Odejayi is back in the lineup next to Killeen while Kanchelskis return to his usual position. Right back Jones rests but Paulinho plays despite only 90% fitness. We lose 1-2 as Dale Anderson scores a brace and we can only respond with a Lewis Killeen header.

Wycombe's Faulconbridge signs with Crewe in the First Division. Philo agrees to a transfer to Third Division Rochdale.

14/2/04 - away at Hayes, 9th in the Conference. For once, we get a good start of the game as Killeen scores in the 2nd minute, but without our best players, we're no match in the long run. Odejayi gets hurt again and we lose 1-3. Luckily, he'll be out for only a week with a damaged elbow. We have dropped to 9th place in the Conference, but only one point behind Halifax on 5th place.

We sign 29-yr old midfielder Mick Galloway from Gretna, a Scottish team. He'll join us when his contract expires on the 1st of July. Alex Meechan returns to full training. Transfer prospects Moor calls off further negotiations with us, citing 'ridiculous' contract offers.

28/2/04 - away at Stevenage, 14th in the Conference. Offiong and El Khalej is back, which means we can field our best team for the first time in five weeks. Sadly that doesn't help as we turn in a flat performance and is soundly beaten 0-3.
