I've also seen the clips of the 1988 WSOP ESPN aired with Johnny Chan and Erik Seidel and in that coverage they displayed the whole cards, you just obviously didn't see them through the camera. Or maybe Discovery did have the rights and decided to air it in a rather dumb way, since obviously it's not live and they could have recorded the narration afterward when they knew what the cards were.
I'm thinking that may have been a documentary, not the "real" coverage.
