I rate this as a huge win for Minn. Smith thrived in a system built for him, and his numbers benefited from a lack of a passing game, since Culpepper was out all year. Now he wants a 5 year, $65m deal, according to my sources. It'd be a wash if Smith was a year or 2 younger, and $40m cheaper.

I'm counting on the fact the RB's frequently reduce their salary demands (sometimes dramatically) as they get older. If I tag him in '10 I have two years to wait and see. Also I was impressed with his performance particularly because Culpepper was hurt and teams didn't have to respect the passing game, and he still ran for 4.5 per carry. His career ypc average was the primary feature that sold me on him...
