Mar-Mac Clinches UMVC Title Despite Loss
GARNAVILLO, IA—The Garnavillo Hawks did their part in spoiling Mar-Mac's shot at a conference title, beating the Spartans, 20-3. Up in Lansing, however, the KeeHawks lost to Valley of Elgin, effectively handing Mar-Mac their first Upper Mississippi Valley Conference Title in over 50 years, and in Mar-Mac's first season since its reopening.

The game itself was a sloppy display of ineffectiveness for all but Garnavillo QB Allen Brandon. While star HB Tyrell Lima was held to only 2.9 yards per carry, Brandon was able to take advantage of a Spartan defense keyed up on stopping the run. Brandon threw for 229 yards on 21-of-29 passing.

For the Spartans, the only standout on offense was senior guard Jimmy Stenerud, who moved the pile in the middle. Turnovers, however, rendered the normally efficient Mar-Mac offense toothless.
