Spartans Fall on the Road
DYERSVILLE, IA—Home of The Field of Dreams, Dyersville residents are fond of the movie's slogan, "Is this Heaven? No, it's Iowa." For the Mar-Mac Spartans, Dyersville Friday night felt more like hell.

Mar-Mac fell behind (a position they're not familiar with) on Dyersville's first possession when Glen Gulbrandsen ran in a 10-yard touchdown. But the Spartans came charging back as Lincoln Ingram led Mar-Mac down the field and capped the drive with a TD pass to senior Gerald Byrne (his 5th). Byrne's glory was short-lived, however, when his fumble on the next Spartan possession was returned 65 yards for a touchdown. Mar-Mac was behind again, 17-7.

Mar-Mac tied it at the half, but in the second semester, the wheels fell off the bus. Another fumble, an interception, 3 dropped passes, and 3 sacks plagued the Spartans, limiting the normally high-powered offense to only 3 first downs. To add insult to injury, Spartan star FB Brant Eppbright left with a hyperextended knee that will keep him out for several weeks. Final score, Dyersville 24, Mar-Mac 17.
